Get my dog back tomorrow
« on: May 20, 2011, 11:04:35 AM »
I am stoked that I get my dog back from training tomorrow.  :IBCOOL: She has been gone since the 9th of April and I miss her like crazy. It will be really fun to see what she has learned.

Now you get to teach her that you are the new Master

Ya no kidding. I just have to try not to spoil her too much when she comes home. I am gonna work with her as much as possible and then she is going to go back a few weeks before the season for a refresher course.

I did the same when i sent my Brit to training. Didn't see him for over a month and a half. Then after that on weekends for a month. My understanding is the trainer wants them to be thought of as the new Master so they will listen. It was good to have him back. It was all I could do to keep the wife from wanting to go and visit him. You will have a good dog when she gets back just keep the training as a weekly thing. :twocents:

Every human is its master

I do not believe that. I have had many hunting dogs (mostly labs) and I can say for certain that when I told my dog to do something he listened to me. When he fetched up birds....he brought them back to his master only.....me. No matter who else was hunting with me.
Just one more day

Do they have this for spouses?

I know how you feel.  My pup spends 6 months of the year with the trainer.  We didn't mean for that to happen, but we said we would never hold her back.  We sent her off to summer camp in SD when she was 1.  We got her back in October and missed the heck out of her.  Unfortunately, but fortunately, she ran a few trials and got her derby points on her 4th trial.  Next thing you know, we have a part time trial dog, house dog, hunting dog, and Field Champion.  I now have mixed feelings about it.  I love my dog more then anything, and I love when shes home, but her brother smoked her this spring on the Trail circuit and he currently stands #6 in the nation in point in ABC gun dog trials.  Not that my is doing too shabby, because she is currently #27, not bad for two dogs that aren't even 3 yet.  But at times I wish she could be at home all the time, and sometimes I think we are holding her back bringing her home.  My heart just won't let her be a full time Field Trail dog though because I love it when shes just being a house dog.  Gotta love gun dogs!

So have you stopped hugging her long enough to get some pics and give us a update?

I will post some pictures of her tonight. She has already taken over her house again and is claiming her territory again.  :chuckle:

Here is another one of her up close. She is still pretty small but the pictures don't really show it
