« on: May 24, 2011, 08:04:01 PM »
found a tick on one of my chock labs this afternoon. this is my baby girl & she's been all over the place, duck hunting , mountains ect. never seen one on her before. had her & the male to the river the other day (same place i always take them) & was just giveing her some loveing & scrubing her down  & found this damn tick. anybody know of a way to keep ticks off of-big-dogs? iv'e looked before & seen drops for the small dogs but havent seen any thing for large ones. shots maybe?

I use Advantage Plus. it was recommended by my vet as one of the best over the counter flea and tick meds for dogs because it is really hard on ticks. Advantix 2 is supposed to kick ticks asses too but apparently its toxic to cats so if you have cats don't use that. Both have them in doses designed for dogs in excess of 100 lbs.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

I've always used "Bio Spot". It's only available from Drs. Foster & Smith. It's less than $3 per dose, compared to about $12/dose for the other brands. Works great.

I use Frontline plus on my two 80 lb labs. The box with a Dalmation on the front is for dogs 45-88lbs. We have tried different treatments, but the Frontline has worked the best for us.

x2 for Frontline. My lab always picks up ticks this time of year, once we find the first tick of the year it's time for the Frontline and problem solved.

I use horse paste, invermectin
the trick is to figure out the dosage, but that stuff will kill everything that latches on to your dog.

from hunting dogs sites and breeders folks been doing this a long time.  I found a clickable plastic syringe thats just about 1 click per dose for a dog.

couple bucks at big R
