Ermine

Thinking about getting into trapping, anyone know if it is legal to trap ermine? if so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

yep they are legal and you can use rats traps on them.  I dont have any advice for you though.  I passed Trappers Education Class but cant really afford to get into another outdoor hobby right now.

Neat video on how to make a weasel box.  Just put in a rat trap and bait.

Bloody meats.  Chicken liver seems to be a favorite.  I have seen a few vids where guys use a dead mouse and some store bought lure.  I have never tried it myself but this is what I have found from the internet.

You gonna try trapping around Vancouver or are you planning on going somewhere else?

I live just north of Vancouver in Woodland and have always wanted to try trapping. My dad caught a weasel once back in the day and kept it as a pet but said it was just luck that he got a weasel. and yea I'll be trapping around there. hoping to take the trappers test this summer.

Might as well set out some cage traps for raccoons, opossums and skunks also.  :chuckle:  Here is the old trapper manual for studying up on until the next class.

OK, so you're not going to catch any ermine around Woodland or for that matter on the west side except maybe high elevation in the Cascades. You'll catch weasel and they will be brown on the back with white bellies or lemon colored bellies depending on which species.
Essentially no fur value sorry to say.
Go eastside if you want ermine.

Well that sucks, at least I know where some beavers are. Thanks for keeping me from chasing something that isn't there lol.
