[Elk whack master]

Any suggestions for carying a .45 1911 on the outside leg type of holster. Im carring it inside pant with an extra mag. Its digs in my side when hunting because of my backpack waist belt  (heavy backpack). It is not very easily accessiable also with my pack on. So the leg/thiegh like i have seen military using seams like it would work. Pros and cons of this carry method would help. thanks

I carry a 1911 IWB too and have the same problem.  With a light daypack I sometimes just fold the belt out of the way and don't use it.  A drop thigh holster would probably work ok as long as you're not really busting through brush.  It might scare some people too I guess depending on where you are.  Other options would be a shoulder holster or a low ride but not drop thigh belt holster might position the gun low enough to avoid the belt.  Maybe a paddle holster slipped over the belt?  Not really any good solutions that also let you conceal.

Another thread suggested the Alaska guide-type holster, which has the gun ride on your chest and apparently doesn't get in the way of a binocular harness.

I like the serpa line of holsters, if you can find one that fit's what you are looking for. Most places carry them and they are a sweet setup.

Trying to IWB carry while wearing a backpack is crazy!!
I can't imagine how that could be comfortable and you would have to remove your pack to draw
 
I IWB carry every day, sometimes I carry OWB with a Serpa around camp or when working in the yard. When the pack goes on, the holster goes on the pack belt, opp hand, to not interfere with my rifle while slung on my right shoulder. I have a tactical rig (thigh mount) as well. After years of wearing tactical, I now find it hinders my hiking/hunting. I must be getting old, lol.
There are so many combinations of how to carry you should be able to find one that fits your body and activity.

I've got one for a full size 1911, and it hold it high and tight, but out of the way of the pack belt.  It's got the finger release that would make it tough to loose, and tough for someone to snatch from ya.  Don't know where you're located, but if your around Lakewood area, Surplus ammo had the best price on the CQC I could find locall.

Does the serpa thigh holster make your leg sweaty or does it have plenty of breathing room?

Your best bet would probably be to mount a holster to the waist belt of your pack.  The thigh rigs won't breathe all that well, and aren't really all that comfortable for hiking and working your way through any sort of thick brush.

Blackhawk Check Six Leather Holster is the way to go. I have 2, one for my XD 45 and one for my Glock 23. Fits very well and is canted perfectly.

What kind of pack and does it have any attachment points on the belt? That's what it comes down to. It's hard to wear a waist holster with a backpack on.
 I got talked out of a thigh rig.

You might want to look at a shoulder holster.  I've worn one of these, carrying a Sig 226 and wearing a Dana Design 5500 cu pack.  You can get a cordura one from Blackhawk for a pretty inexpensive price.

pac is a badlands 2200 not any room on the belt for anything without sewing somthing on.

Yes a thigh rig will make you sweat. It has to be tight to keep from flopping around as you move up and down. They also tend to pull up you pantleg at times. On the Badlands 2200, can you attach anything between the belt and the belt pad?
In the photos it looks like there is room for a holster mount.

IF there is room between the pad and the web strap try your IWB holster in there. My buddy puts a cheap IWB holster there on a Blacks Creek pack and it works swell. Too bad the 2200 doesn't have the built in holster that the BL Superday has.
