Savage 720 12ga project
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:13:03 AM »
I traded an incomplete marlin model 60 for this old bugger.
I only need the forend for it and it will be 100% complete parts wise, from what i am reading, the Remington model 11 auto shotguns parts will interchange directly. good thing too!

in the process of locating a replacement forend for it then i will start making it look good and shoot great again.
I just love the oldschool compensator on the barrel, Cutts Lyman. mean looking thing it is lol!

Cant wait to have it 100% again, may just hang it on the wall somewhere for schidts & giggles.

sweet!
I found a forearm stock on ebay for an OK price considering how old this beast is.

I was hoping the price would stay down, but some buttrash though he would snipe it, too bad i bid it higher than usual because i want my shottie complete lol!

Aerial gunner training weapon?  That will be great for swatting Messerschmitts and Junkers.

Or cut it down to 18”, keep the Cutts on it though, it looks cool.

yep, its marked on the barrel with the flaming bomb and four stars meaning it did see action of some sorts in WWII, these were used to train B14 & B24 crews for arial gunnery training.
a bunch were also put into the trenches as well, this one looks (pitting wise) as is it dug the ditches.

been reblued at some point, cant wait to see it all complete and functional again, these are great guns.
the cutts compensator adds a mean look to it, also it means i dont have to change around the spring & collar when choosing the loads i shoot with the shotgun.

Before you go banging it. You need to have it checked by a smith that understand Browning's design. There are, or should be, some felt buffers in the hump that need to be there or you run the risk of cracking the old girl.

BTW: Them things be fun.  :IBCOOL:

The Remington model 11 uses the "Fibre Cushion", the Browning A5 does not.  I don’t think the Savage uses it either but it’s worth looking into.

thiws old shotgun shoots great, not what i want to lug around the woods anytime too soon, but great fun busting rounds into targets to see how much damage it can make.

shot around 25-30 rounds before my shoulder started telling me to trade off to the winchester ranger lol!
