Potholes bowfishing ?'s
« on: May 24, 2011, 09:33:55 PM »
My buddy and  I have just recently got into bowfishing and we are planning on taking a trip to potholes to shoot some fish.  When would be  a good time to go over?  We talked about going over in august but someone said that the lake get really low in august and it will be hard to launch a boat.  What do you guys do with your shot fish over there?

thanks,
Nate

The shooting is usually better earlier in the year...now through mid summer.  The lake does get low later in the year but you can still launch at the state park or the launch by the dam.  The fish stay deeper and are harder to get shots at then.  I always see them hit the surface and dive back down that time of year never giving good shots.  It's frustrating to see them all around you and not get very many shots.

It will start turning on in places right now. It's still cool and the water temp isn't up yet, "around here". They are just starting to show up in the shallows. I would shoot for mid june-mid july best time for lot's of shooting.

Yeah that's pretty much my experience over there as well. They seem to hang deeper later. Surfacing and going under. Really frustrating. I was over there not too long ago and was happy with the shooting. Water was pretty clear too.
