Question about Remington 700

So I was at Cabelas last weekend and was looking to buy a .300 RUM. I looked eventually found a Remington 700 ADL scoped combo with a remington 3x9x40 scope on it. (Only $449 had me hooked) I know that since it is a combo that it is not gonna be a scope of high quality; however, I did ask the guy selling me the gun if the high power of the .300 RUM will "eat" up the scope and rings it came with and he said, no. Anyone have any thoughts as to whether or not the scope is just gonna be eaten up by the round very quickly, or should I be fine for a while?

You would think that Remington wouldn't be stupid enough to put a scope that's gonna be ruined within 60 shots on a combo that they sell together....

No its not going to "eat up" the scope. However that scope is not going to let you take full advantage of that round. i own a rem700 300rum

I am going to take the rem scope off of it more then likely and put my 4x16x50 monarch on it. I was just curious about the durability of the scope it came with.

I have the REM 700 and it is in 300 RUM, it will eat that scope for breakfast. I have a Nikon 5.5X16.5X50  on mine... works like a champ. I have not complaints and welcomt to the 300 Rum world you will love it.

A "Remington" scope?      I never heard of Remington scope. Must be a Tasco, or maybe even something worse!

yes most of the scopes that come on the 700s are tascos.

The scope might eat you up,   I shot one of those 700 ADL combos last weekend (270 win) the 3-9x40 Remington scope has very little eye relief.  Not really a problem with the .270 but it could be with a 300 RUM  especially if you have to make a steep up hill shot.  I think there could be a pretty good chance for a little kiss above the right eye.  I don't think the scope will fail (or explode) after 60 rounds but you might consider replacing it from a safety standpoint.   It was a fairly dim, cloudy scope as well escpecially after shooting my gun with a Leupold.    You got a great deal on a nice rifle,  my friends 270 took about 5 rounds to sight in and was shooting 1/2" groups with the first batch of handloads we shot.  Pretty good for $450.00  And if you do upgrade optics you won't have to spend 50 or 60 bucks on scope rings.

Its at cabelas so its going to be one of cabelas pine ridge scopes. Bought the same combo from cabelas about a year ago. I've put a couple hundred full power hand loaded rounds through it with no problems with the scope. Its nothing fancy but it does the job. But it still doesn't meet the capabilities of the rifle.

I put a used Leupold with a 50mm front objective on my Rem .300 RUM and had an issue with it after about four years. It literally loosened the front glass on the scope. Luepold repaired at no cost, no problems since with probably five new years on this repaired scope.

I have the exact same gun except its 300 win mag. So far the scope has held up on 150 shots but when I get the money I'm thinking I might get a nikon buckmaster

I don't think they would put a scope on a 300RUM if it wasn't going to work. If it breaks, take it back for a new scope. I had a Nikon 3x9x40 on mine with no problems.

The Remington brand scopes on the ADL packages are made by a company called Hunan, which deals in low end optics, but some of the Cabelas combos do have the Pine Ridge scopes on them.

Either way, I would think you'll be much happier in the long run if you swap it out for some quality optics.
