rogue river
« on: May 26, 2011, 09:28:50 AM »
Headin down to grants pass this weekend. My buddy lives on the rogue river, gonna try and get lucky with some early summer steelies or their big spring chinook run.  Anyone ever fished it. I'll be on the bank
If it looks fishy, fish it. If it doesn't look fishy, fish it anyway!

I just returned from there last week..we fished mcgregor park area..saw lots of springer's jumping and quite a few caught...first time there. I quickly learned from the locals that flossing is the technique to use..not my cup of tea.

Flossing is using a longer than normal leader while drift fishing. As a fish opens its mouth for whatever reason the leader will float into the fishes mouth. The weight continues down stream and pulls the hook into the corner of the fishes mouth.

Okay. I used to fish the middle rouge at a place called foster creek and the salmon schooled up where the cooler water came in and people would use those long leaders with a fly and the fish would breath it in and it would expell out the gills and they would be hooked through the mouth but in the body.
