Pics of my "Dogs"?
« on: June 04, 2008, 07:31:11 AM »
Since Dick was having so much fun with his dog pictures, thought I would add mine as well.
The big one is "Kenzie"  Half Rott/Half Shar-Pei
The little one is my wife's, "Rocky"  Supposedly Chiuahua, but I see a lot of Rat Terrier in him too.

So do any of you guys use your dogs for hunting or they used just as companionship?

My dogs are too dumb to hunt.
Kenzie is 85% deaf, so it is tough to get her attention, which makes training harder than normal.
Rocky is just too, ummm..... not smart.

Trying to train my Dad's border collie when I can, but she is not too interested.

Love the Border Collie with the birds.  That would be great!

The best quail dog I had ever hunted behind was a blue heeler border collie mix, until this past year.  My brother in law got a weim from back in Iowa that is absolutely amazing and he is a terrible trainer.  That dog has more natural ability than I have ever seen and a great nose.

She's really smart and can do a wonderful job, sometimes i have to reel her in a little as (like all B collies) she gets going pretty fast.  When I'm alone with her I can keep up, but with other dogs she doesn't do as well.

Heck, that is true with almost all hunting dogs.  "Whoa" is the toughest command to teach a dog in my opinion.

She is a gorgeous dog.  Looks like a great hunting partner.

My dogs know the word "No", but they choose to ignore it.  The deaf one has to see me first so she will respond to hand signals.

Someday maybe I will have a hunting dog. :'(

Thanks!  They're a good breed, very high drive and smart.  She has her issues, like most dogs.  Now i just wish i had more birds to hunt up here.  I got her and trained her when i lived near bridgeport and had lots of quail to hunt.  Now i live in Pend Oreille county and only have grouse.

The Grouse over on our property in Colville area chase my dad's Border Collie away.  I think she is a little afraid of them now.

She sure like to eat them though.  Last year she jumped into the bed of my truck when I turned my back and grabbed to Blues and ran up the mountain and ate them.  By the time I found her, there was nothing but feathers and feet left.  Tried to start training her then, but I only see her every so often, which makes it hard.  Dad has no interest in using her to hunt.

Scott,
You have some great looking dogs! Kenzie looks like a dog with a Real Attitude that is pretty laid back. While Rocky looks like a bundle of energy! :) Thanks for posting the photos! :)

Yep, you hit the nail on the head, Dick.

Kenzie is very laid back most of the time, until Rocky gets her fired up.  They really are great dogs.  Kenzie used to get along with my cats great until Rocky came home.  Now I only see my cats if the dogs are outside or kenneled.  But I used to see them sleeping together like your earlier pics.
