I will be able to get in and scout in about two weeks.  Just waiting for a little more snow to melt.

who scouts near st helens??? :dunno:
I should say who needs to scout st helens. the elk are in the same places every year...

You never know an area too good, so I have some exploring to do, and why not do it now.  Might get lucky and find some sheds.

I guess what i am trying to say is that nobody really hunts st helens unless you hunt the lewis river side. Most people drive up on a landing and wait for something to walk out, or they drive around waiting for an animal to walk in front of them...

Good thing about gas prices is there will be less road hunting going on. Or there will be more people walking into the areas we walk into, crap... there is another problem with high gas prices, less road hunters = more people walking in the woods with us...

LOL, I know what you mean.  But you hvae to know when someone says Mt. St. Helens area, they are talking about somewhere in the vicinity of 500 square miles in the general area of Mt. St. Helens.  To be more specific I would like to scout between St. Helens and Adams, and I don't plan to be doing much road hunting.  :)

We used to hunt between adamas and helens. I love that hunt, but it got to crazy, rifle hunting. I wish we could get that unit for ML, We have always hunted there untill we switched to ML.

Ya I wouldnt rifle hunt that area at all.  I bow hunt so there arent nearly as many people.  As far as I know FR 83 which runs between Adams and St Helens is still washed out.

I have been out in the woods for the last 3 weekend and I am heading back after work today. The worst day out we saw 78 elk. I got a good long look at a nice solid 5 so he should be really nice come Sept. We found one 6 point shed as well so they are still out there! I can't wait for my camera to get back and try out my new zoom lens,3 weeks and counting!

Does anyone know if they have repaired FS RD 23 between Randle and Mt. Adams? I do not really want to drive all the way around by Woodland and Swift Creek to get to the Berry fields area. That adds 2 hours to the trip.

The St. Helens area was a bust.  3 feet of snow cancelled my weekend scouting trip.  Hard to believe there is that much snow up there.  Waisted a tank of gas.
