Coastal Conservation Association(CCA)
« on: June 04, 2008, 01:05:38 PM »
Finally a nonprofit organization working hard to protect our fisheries from commercial fishing etc. www.joincca.org

Just think how much work "could possibly" get done if each one of us that loves to fish donates just 25 bucks.

Id change the "would" to "possibly could". 25 bucks garentees nothing. Except a membership.

OK I changed it,lol.

Optimistically speaking, they do seem to be working very hard on a long term plan to ensure that the majority of hatchery fish that our license fees are paying for will be caught by us someday.

Until I see them do something in the NW,I won't give them a dime.

I've got friends that have donated money, but they now wish they hadn't.

The leaders on the CCA always seem to have the same line of BS about what the money is going to. They won't give a straight answer. All they say is that they need more money to get things rolling. When asked about what the next step is,they always say "we can't say anything because we don't want to give the opponents any insight as to what we're up to."

They might be keeping the opponents in the dark, but they're also keeping their members in the dark. Not a good way to do business IMO.

No matter what, its going to be a tough battle in Wa for anyone. The big commercial outfits all based in Seattle who fish AK plus the federal treaty make this state one hard sucker to turn around. Pressure from the tribes and HUGE contributions keep the ones they want in office...IMO.

Seems right now the main focus of Loomis has been or is the SW rivers and the smaller commercial fleet on the Big C.

Its not a bad gamble for the 25 bucks. But Id still like to see a bit more from them as far as a plan. I also realise that will take time. Im sure Ill join sometime.

I don't know much about these guys but I think it may be the same organization that a guide buddy of mine in FL belongs to..... he says they do great work on protecting habitat, influencing limits, etc.  They were a major player in saving the redfish fishery in FL.

They have done awesome stuff on the whole eastern sea board. They also saved the Seatrout in the Gulf states. They have done great stuff for 13 states.

But they have never been up against a federal treaty and the influencing money this states native and commercial fisherman have. This will be there biggest battle yet...Go Gary!!!!

Looks like CCA has a long list of accomplishments since the organization started 1978.
Taking on Washington's issues would be a major challenge for sure,25 dollars from about half of Washington's sportfishers could very well cover the cost and turn our fishing around for years to come.
25 dollars could buy a case of beer or it could go towards helping an active organization. I know I am willing to take the chance.
I'm tired of seeing our license fees being used to raise fish only to see about 90+% of them sold in the grocery store.
