duck camo question

is it nessacary to have duck camo? currently i wear the same camo as i would when i deer hunt... does it make a difference or should i get some real camo for ducks?

Different people will probably have different opinions on this one. For me, I think that the camo pattern isn't as important and concealment and being able to stay still. Just make sure that you keep still when the birds are near and that your silhouette is broken up and you should be ok.

The silhouette or hard line is the biggest thing in my opinion.  I've always thought about getting a ghillie suit to break it up. I'm rarely hunting out of a blind, usually just in whatever brush I can find close enough to my set.  I think it'd do well. 

They do see color so obviously use whatever you have that's close to the same colors of your surroundings and you should be fine.  I don't think the pattern is all that important.

It is more about the movement but I would say dark camo would not work as well in light tan grass as a lighter camo would.  I use the same woodland camo for ducks as elk, I refuse to buy two sets of raingear.

Ghillie suit works great! used one all last season. Once all my buddies saw i had one and how amazing it looks they all went out and bought some. Its really worth it. Also tried it hunting geese in a field instead of a ground blind or some type of layout blind, we through on all our ghillie suits and it was unbelieveable how great they work.

I wouldn't wear the florescent orange.  It doesn't work well.     It really doesn't matter what you wear camo wise.  I used to use military camo back in my younger days.  The ticket is just being well hidden or hunting out of concealled location, "blind, layout, thicket, etc."  The big difference is having clothing that is water proof and that keeps you warm.  You get to experience some nasty weather and many times your just sitting.  My personal favorite for hunting the west side is Max-4 camo pattern.  I do have multiple other camo patterns, but that seems to blend good.

Be sure to get a face mask.  The ducks are looking down from above, and a bare face looking up is like shining a flashligt at them. The best camo in the world will be cancelled out by a bare face.

Match your back round. If you are laying in green grass be green. In the mud match it.
I learned that you really do not need camo if you match your back round and stay still. Movement is caught by everything we hunt. In a dark hub blind I blacken my face and wear a black t-shirt.
Turkey hunting where trees have been blackened five feet up the truck I might wear a black shirt and green pants to match the grass. In the reads along a pond or lake a shadow grass mat.

I like to take photos of my self up against different back rounds to see how well I blend in.

main thing is wearing something over your face and your hands... thats the first thing the birds will notcie is shiny faces and hands... i always wear face paint on my face and hands... and since i started my kill rates have gone way up and my flare rates have gone way down

Another body part on the white man that gets overlooked and is easy for ducks to see is your hands....think how much movement is going on with your hands while working a call.  Paint them or wear camo gloves!

Best thing to do is create a hiding situation where you are in the shadows and the ducks are looking into the sun..that's the best camo!  And/or set the deeks so that the ducks' attention is focused away from where you're hiding.  If you are right in front of where they are focused on landing they will have a much better chance of spotting you or something they don't quite like.

My personal opinion as long as you aren't wearing a bright green camo in a dark brown back drop. you'll be fine. I think someone said it earlier, you stay still and concealed it doesn't matter what camo you have. I think to break up your outline more it helps to have a couple different camo's. It will help blend in with anything that is around you. for example having a different colored waders, coat, hat.
