Bear Questions
« on: May 30, 2011, 11:18:53 PM »
I posted some of these on trail cam thread but I would like some information on hunting bears.  I have just seriously started hunting bears the last 2 years.

How big of an area/territory does a large bear roam?  I found some big tracks about a mile from where my pictures were taken at, and would like to know how big of an area to concentrate on.
I assume boars will go chasing/looking for sows, but do they ruturn to their home area?

Can you tell by a picture the size of a bear?  I think this bear is good size because the camera is about 6'4"-6'6" from the ground and it got real close to the camera.

I noticed a spot on this bears chest, is that just unique markings or sign of age?

I think it's a sow, 130 lbs or so. I say this because her hind quarters seam slim  not big and musclely. The wt. spot is just a color crest   nothing to do with age. She looks old in the face  --( wide muzzel) looks like a chewed uo ear.

:twocents:  That bears is easy over 200lbs.  Great blaze on the chest.  Blaze theory is that it's a way they can Id themselves. Ears to me tell alot look how far apart they are! Great Bear!

To my untrained eye that would make a nice first bear for me.

IMO that is a nice bear,
I look at the head and legs,
if the ears seem small, and the legs short = nice bear,
long, ears and legs,= small bear
I have been told that sows are more "pear-shaped" while a Boar will be more square (or flatter along the back), but...  :dunno:
