Camera Stolen
« on: May 31, 2011, 12:57:22 PM »
Well, knowing that I was taking the risk of getting my camera stolen came to reality this past weekend. I was hoping to post some pics after soaking for 3 1/2 weeks but, that isn't going to happen. I hunt on private land and the property around it. I found a great trail off the property that the game are traveling through. Set up my camera and bait and I've had great success with some pics that I have posted with Deer and Yotes. You know what really pisses me off is that some one knew exactly where the camera was located and I was the only person that knew where it was. They had cleared a trail that had big boulders and fallen trees across the road leading down to an open area.  Once you get down the hill you would not believe that they happen to go through a ton of sage, turn and go through a thick patch of reprod driving over the trees which looked like a Rhino 4 wheeler and over a fallen tree and into a small clearing that I have created. They drove right to my location, took my camera, turned around and left. Another thing that makes me sick is that some one has been watching me come and go. So they must of thought that is was time to drive down to that location which boarders the private property and take the camera and leave the mineral block. So I decided to have my buddy pick up the mineral block and the new 50lb bag of salt that I just bought to take it to a new location. I decided that I would move the location since some one already knows where I have been and, I already know whats in that area.

Now I'm in the market for a new cheap camera. I don't think I'll spend over $50 do to the fact that it might get stolen again and to just through away money it's not my cup of tea. I think all I want is to see what is coming and going from sun rise to sun set. Any suggestion on a some what good and cheap camera that might fit the build of this type of requirements?  Thanks

iRem,
I've been getting the $25 Wildview cameras.  Nothing fancy, the pictures are decent only 1.3 MP black and whites.  But I use it just to see if the critters are deer or bear or yotes and get their visit times.  You can tell a buck from a doe in most cases, but maybe not antler specifics.  When I place the cameras, I use wire leader used for fishing so Bubba doesn't see big elastic cords wrapped around trees.  Also like to place cams on roots or under a downed tree, you can hang them like a Xmas ornament.  Cover the sides with old bark or moss and put electrical tape over the red light or even the flash.

Sorry to hear about your cam, the thought makes me sick. Did you have it locked up? I bought a box and python cable, but I know if they want it they will get it one way or another.

Sorry to hear abut some dusche helping them self to your camera.

But with the recent number of people coming up with cameras mising, is any one getting there cameras that was locked up stolen  :dunno:

It seems as all the cameras that have been stolen have not been locked up, and I just tend to wonder why someone would put out there camera with out it being locked up?
Againg, I tuly an sorry you got ripped off, but on the other hand, I am trying figure out why some one would not lock it  :dunno:

My theory is, if someone is going to steal my camera, I am going to make it as hard as I can, that way it was worth there effort  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:  And I made my own lock box  ;)

My $50 tasco walmart special seems to be working fine. Been getting pics/video of yotes, couple does, and a nice size cow recently. I do get an occasional blank though.

I've got four cameras out right now and not one of them is locked up. I'll take my chances. That's why I buy cheap cameras. For the price of a lock box, I can buy a trail camera.

I've got a Wildview that I paid about $28 for, and a couple of Tascos that were $40 each. And a couple of Moultries that were a little more money, so I try to make sure they are located in the more obscure areas.

When I step one foot into the woods I am armed. I would assume most people are. Don't these idiots realize they may come face to face with the angry armed owner as they walk out? Someone was going to steal one of my bobcat cages last winter but must have realized, that on the 1/2 mile walk out the trail, they might run into me. They left the cage right in the middle of the trail.

Private Land?

3nails...I am armed too when I go in the woods but there is no way I would shoot someone over the theft of a trailcam. So to me a gun would not come into play unless the life of my family, friends, innocent bystanders or my life were in question. That's just my  :twocents: There would be a fight though.

NWBREW- You're absolutely right. A hundred dollar camera is not worth gunplay. I should have been clearer meaning that, being armed, it would throw a whole lot of tension into an already bad situation. And I don't think these thieves are considering that while stealing something with little value.
