« on: June 05, 2011, 08:42:21 AM »
Just curious, when u put on a broad head on a arrow and u spin test n notice a wabble could u change out the insert for a new one will it fix the problem? I was just looking at a couple arrows that is in the corner that did a wabble when i spin test em n havnt used em since. They are arrows i had when i first started a couple years back.

More info needed.  Are the arrows carbon or aluminum?  Aluminum arrows will bend, and that will cause a wobble.  It's very difficult to get inserts out of carbon arrows, so you may want to try a different bhead.  Sometime that helps.

Carbon. How can it be difficult to remove the insert? When i turn the broadheads to havee a blade up right, i heat the end of the insert, put on the bh, and twist till a blade is upright position, and let her cool.

Most of the time carbon arrows can be a pain to pull inserts. Unless they were put in with just hot melt or something like that. Most of the glue used for putting in inserts doesn't heat well. Often times the carbon will burn and sometimes catch on fire along with the glue, before the insert will come out. Also the fumes of the glue and carbon are very nasty to breath. I would just save them for shooting small game. The insert might just need to be squared up. A lot of shops don't square the inserts. They will do the shaft after cutting it but not the insert and sometimes that can make all the difference in the world.

i believe heating the shaft weakens the carbon. get a G5 A.S.D. and square both ends of the shaft, and the insert. also there are a few glues out there "insert iron" and "powerbond" that are made to be heated up so you can get inserts out. i dont use it anymore because the gorilla impact tough super glue is way stronger, that is if you dont want to remove inserts...

Just purchase one of those tools from G5 I believe that squares the ends. Do both ends as well! It has save quite a few arrows I was using as target arrows and turned them into ones I could use for hunting. It's amazing how the ends not being square can affect broad head performance and arrow flight!

They are more than worth the money  :)

Good luck

if you don't want to fork out 30 bucks, then just make a jig like the one below.  works just the same.  as long as it is actually square.
