Blended Tents
« on: June 04, 2011, 08:34:27 AM »
I have a large(16' x 24') canvas wall tent I use for larger groups and/or extended says.

In addition to the big tent I've come to the conclusion I need another smaller and lighter tent that can be setup by one person for trips that are shorter and geared more towards smaller, more simple, lighter weight and ease of set up for one guy. I still want the comfort, relative space and warmth provided by a wall tent and wood stove. I have set up tents up to 12' x 15' with internal aluminum frame in past by myself no problem and canvas weights have run around 70# +.  I'm looking at a 12' x 14' now.
For the purposes I describe I am intrigued by the blended tents by Montana Canvas. Canvas tops and relite walls.  My concern is that these synthetic walls will cause condensation, which I don't want. I'd rather go all canvas than risk any condensation.
Question for all of you, does anyone have any experience with these blended tents tents? Do they condensate? Are my fears unfounded? For just gaining the nominal weight savings would you recommend going all canvas? With projected weight of all canvas I can still put up all myself and go with a Davis tent which is solid quality and time tested. No experience with Montana Canvas. If all checked out OK saving around 25# and going relite from Montana Canvas is worth considering.
Chime in with your opinions or comments please. Thanks.

By the way, anyone ever notice when the group hunting and fishing trips are done how elusive your friends and hunting/fishing partners are when it's time to hang/dry or clean the tent and gear? Trying to find my buddies at the end of the trip is like finding elk in deep dark timber and when I find them it's like herding cats to get them to help.  :bash:

I was considering a blended tent, also.  I hadn't thought of the condensation questions you bring up.  I had the same problems with my friends.  No one around to help get ready, no one around to help clean up and no one around to help fix the camper when it's broken.  That's why I leave my friends at home, now.
