Close enough to have to wipe the venom off my lens when he decided to strike it. About 6 inches from the barrel of the lens.

Is there a good or bad time of year to eat rattler? Great photo, but if I was that close to him, he'd be on the dinner menu.

nice ..I love snakes ... loved catching them when I was a kid .. eastern timber rattlers and copperheads ..did you put the camera in his face ...
