there was one hanging around sheep creek campground 7 years ago..fish and game told us we should leave...hour before it had come into a guy cooking at his cabin ..the guy fired a gun into the ground and it wandered off.  About 2 weeks later we saw this bear up above in a clearcut, loggers we talked to said they saw it several times throughout the summer.

When I was 13 hunting with my dad we watched one from a distance while bear hunting up on muraski mt on the Canadian line.

huntnnw,   I don't know how old you are (I'm geussing between 35 and 45....more or less :chuckle:) but there is no doubt we have crossed paths up there......no wonder theres no deer up there.  :chuckle: The grizz up by sheep creek was the one I thought had a collar on it.  :dunno: I could be wrong. That must be why they hung all those little "KNOW YOUR BEARS, THERE ARE GRIZZLY HERE" signs. I used to hunt up muraski for bear....but not for a good number of years now. Used to be a lot of bears up there......no bears left there now either.  :chuckle:
Just one more day

Bach in 2002 Boneaddict was hunting his WA. moose in Laclerc Cr. near the Idaho border.  I was there with two ride/pack mules, while Bone was hunting one day I was exercising the mules and doing a little scouting in a different area, a couple miles behind a gate was some nice looking country, I was riding along enjoying the afternoon when right in front of me a baby bear scampered across, I thought that little guy sure is cute as I watched him, then another little guy did the same, DAMN those are grizzly cubs and mom must be close by, I did a very calm smooth U turn and never looked back, didn't want mom or the mules to think anything was wrong.  But my mind was making a plan if she did charge, turn one mule loose and try to stay on the other one, it was not a good place to have a race.  We had a couple other grizzly encounters that trip but those were the only ones I actually seen.

My grandpa has seen tracks of Grizzlies in Indiana Heavens and Goat Rock areas. He'sa biologist. So he knows what he's talking about. I just know when we go hiking up there. He's packing 2 handguns and he always make sure i know where one is and know how to use it if i have too.

In 2007 I was scouting for a high buck hunt, seen one on the south creek trail on the methow river. There were signs at some of those trail heads that said it was are recovery area for the griz. Told a park ranger at the camp ground what I had seen, She said that they are in there but the last sighting was five years earlyer. I love hunting bears and have seen alot positive it was a griz.

25 years or so ago above Lake Chelan and one near Vulcan Mt. in Ferry County.

That time line is the same as what a forest service back country employee told me.. He collected and had confirmed hair samples.

Back the late 90's we used to spend two weeks every year hunting bear at the end of August up the Twisp River Valley. We would usually camp up around Mystery Camp or somewhere in that general vicinity and we always seen bears. We did a lot of hiking and got off the beaten path quite a bit, so it didn't seem that hard to find bears.

We seen a sow with cubs up the North Creek trail in '97 out on the a grassy hillside.  We watched them for an hour at about 500 yards through the spotting scope before they finally moved out of sight. I have seen a lot of black bears and these were definitely grizzly bears.

In '98 we bumped into another grizzly about 150 yards away from us when we were hiking up into the state land back off of Frost Creek Road. We made it back by Aspen lake, which is about 1/2 mile if memory serves me right.  We were headed back by Moccasin Lake when we seen him and he was heading the same direction, so we decided to double back hunt a different area.

Those were my two encounters, but that's enough for me.  I haven't hunted up in that area for years, but I would guess that there are still a few grizzlies kicking around those parts.
The best friend a guy could have asked for. RIP chasing pheasants in heaven Denali girl.

These bear were seen by several people over a 2-3 year period. I made a few trips to see them but never did, I did see a lot of sign, got into their beds on the timbered side.  I think Boneaddict has a story to tell about an encounter early one morning.

Not sure what year it was, but in that time frame 93-97 probably.  I was bear hunting in there and was investigating a bear feeding down in the creek.  If anyone has beenin there they should know how thick it is.  I snuck down the hill and got where I could see a small opening.  Out walks a grizz cub and then another, and then mom walked out.  NICE.  As fun as it would have been to sit and watch them, I just backed out.  I quit bear hunting in there as well.  I believe Idabooner and another cowboy friend found lots of evidence of a boar in there as well.  (Guess you need one to make cubs.)

I’ve got a couple other adventures as well with them here in Washington.

I was calling moose on the Wa/ID border.  Idabooner was down the road. He was waiting until dark to come to me.  I was sitting there with my bow cow calling and grunting.  All of a sudden I hear a twig snap behind me.  I gently turned.  Moose can sneak in just as easy as they can come full bore.  About 30 feet behind me was a nice Grizz.  Face to face with the longbow in my hands.  THANKFULLY he spooked and relocated.  Funny thing is he relocated in the direction of Idabooner who was slipping down the logging road in the dark.

I'm sure he would appreciate that. :chuckle:

And then there was the one that kept stalking us while packing out my moose.  He was VERY CLOSE (within feet) and the mules knew it……. That’s a story I will always shake my head at.  The mules were insane.
