Filming your hunt

First off I intend to do this for Yote hunting, but the post itself may be in the wrong thread.  If so sorry admin With Yote hunting do you guys leave your camera on for the full stand or turn it on when the yotes show up?  Also how do you contend with a yote that comes in from a hard angle that would require you to move, and then how to avoid being busted by that?  Thanks for reading the post

Seth30, I will try and help.  I am definitely not a pro.  We filmed a few coyote hunts this year.  We don't have any kill shots though (we will blame it on the gun).

We hunt uncut tall grass hay fields that are relatively flat.  In this situation we found that a dedicated cameraman is a must and you have to be able to communicate.  We turn the camera off and on throughout the hunt.  we show things such as setting up the caller, the walk in and hand calling.

As far as hard angles, wait for the animal to go behind an obstacle giving you a chance to swing.  If not you will have to be quick and hopefully you have enough time to get off a shot (most likely it would be at a running coyote).

John, thanks for the input.  Most of the areas that I hunt have very limited visibility, but I do know a few areas wide and open.  This is the best view point of places that I hunt.

That would be a perfect spot to build yourself a ground blind.  That will allow you to get away with a little more movement.

I was thinking that myself.  I was hunting that section last weekend, and had two yotes come up behind me   I am going to return there either tomorrow or saturday still waiting on a few of my regular hunting buddies to respond to emails

its alot easier with two people but I have video from 10 yrs ago and used to tape the video to the side of my gun and now I put my bipod between my legs as I am sitting on my butt ..it works great when your alone ...One of my videos shows a shotgun wad going threw a coyote at 6 steps

Never thought of taping the camera to my gun.  Thanks I bet that slug did some real damage.

no it was not a slug !! it was winchester #5 turkey load .... flat out will drop them out to 45 to 50 yrds...this year when I shot my turkey at 35yrds It took out 3 stranes of bobwire and devastated the turkey and a fence post ... I have videoed alot of hunts but never took it serious but I love coming home and watching my own hunts ..thats cool enough for me ... I do need to figure out to put a couple on hear because I have some awesome turkey hunts and lots of bear which are all up high in blueberries .. hell videoed 7 last year never killed a one ... need to be a monster because I have packed to many out of these hell holes and I am lazy now ...

actually steel shot works good because it is faster so at 30 yrds it will up end them ..

think they are about 200-300 bucks but they have helmet cams with a small cam corded to a battery and memory pack, you can find them at dirt bike places and such. I used to have one, it was light enough to stick on a hat bill with out any real problems. think it would work great for filming a hunt and saved to sd card.But i was filming a little race with buddys and missed a tree so no more cam....

YEAH saw those might get me one ... wildlife inovations or something like that ... plus they have all kinds of gismos for fastening cameras to your gun now days ... taping it was my way years ago but I have up graded since ..

I saw the wild game ones before also they looked pretty good, the one I had was for filming from a dirt bike helmet but there are tons of styles out there now, been thinking about picking up a new one myself to film stuff with.. tired two weeks in a row to film a head shot with a bow on a marmot 2 so far 2 head shots 1 broken arrow and no film of it lol.
