Hall Mt. Bighorns
« on: June 05, 2008, 09:02:04 PM »
Since Hall Mt. sheep were brought up in another thread I decided to post a few shots I got a few years ago with a cheap point and shoot camera. These were taken in December of 2001 at the Noisy Creek feeding station. A year later the WDFW terminated winter feeding here, mainly due to cougar predation.
This was the biggest ram there that day.

Very cool. A couple years ago my brother and I woke up at first light in Missoula and headed east for a deer hunt in November. We got about 10 minutes down 90 and I spotted some animals just off the highway about 100 yards up the hill. Woke WF up and pulled over to watch a couple rams going at it just like on tv. They backed up, got up on their back feet and CRASH!!!! It gave me a headache just watching it but man was that cool, and right on the highway.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Is it Hall Mt. or are you talking about Mt. Hull S.E. of Oroville?  Ive seen some dandy rams up there while bear hunting.

It's Hall Mountain, just east of Metaline Falls.

I've been there years ago also Timber when the feeding station was active.  I guess the cougars were killing tons of them at the station so they thought it was better to close it down.  There are some big rams there.  I have seen some 190" rams there...  Thanks for the pictures, they bring back memories.

Nice shots Timber.  I need to get back up there and go for a hike to see if I can find them again.

I've done the hike to the top of the mountain and it is a great hike.  However, it's hard to find the rams.  They range out quite a bit.  I remember talking to someone back at the feeding station and they had reports that the rams range out all the way into Canada.  They can be tough to locate.  Maybe in November the big rams will be down by the ewes for breeding and that will be the best opportunity.

I pretty much do it 12 mos of the year.  It would really suck to be limited to just one month. :)

lets think about this you get all the action you can take for about 30 days? then you have the whole rest of the year to do as you plz AND they really want nothing do with you after your done, and your in it only for yourself no paceing yourself for her, no for play before or cuddleing afterwards. might not be so bad. Plus JDB...you get to have at it with a whole herd of females for that month.  I mean, really.  How many of us would give up 12 months of mating with one female or a month of mating with 30?  (assuming we aren't married and there are no consequences)  I think I would take the month of fun myself.  Palmella Handerson can be my girlfriend the other 11 months.  But man would I have memories...
