I talked to a guy a couple years ago that lived on the Kitsap peninsula and he swore that this worked.

I have taken two blacktails one rattling last year and one grunting,,I have called many deer in with fawn and distress.....the buck below came in fast and hard and was dropped at 10 to 15 feet ..I was still hunting and rattling at the same time
