cutting diameter of broadheads ...
« on: June 12, 2011, 12:23:22 PM »
i read so many posts on this subject but cant shed light on none of it ... exspandible broadheads are basically junk .. I know alot of eastcoast guys who I have known since childhood and have killed many animals with a bow and 85 % of them will agree with me on this subject .. I have bowhunted since I was 9 yrs old and killed my first whitetail at that age with a 50 # bear recurve and the old bear broadheads that needed razor inserts ( bleeder blades ) and I continued my success with that same bow when I came to washington in 86 ... some guys think the bigger hole the better and think by hitting something other than in the kill spot it will help retrieve the animal ... not the case at all ... I use a wasp boss which has 11/4 cutting diamter and it flat out kills everthing It comes in contact with ... 100grs wasp boss.. All the years of bow hunting I believe the biggest reason for loosing animals with a bow is lack of knowledge and the number one reason being ( not giving the animal enough time to expire ) shooting an animal and tracking it with a bow right after the shot is a no no .. unless you see it hit the dirt before your own eyes.. reason  bring this up is because I have talked to so many people telling me they hit something dead center threw the lungs and went right after it and turned out them loosing it .. I never shot any animal threw both lungs or heart shot and lost any of them .....not being n a$$hole but I have killed bear elk turkey and many deer bowhunting and I believe I LOST 2 ANIMALS IN MY WHOLE CAREER ... I believe discipline may be the reason .......

I'm with you I have lost an animal or two myself but they were my fault bad shots.  I have been using 1 cut broadheads the last few years if you put them in the right spot they are just as deadly as a two cut would be.
