Bike trailers
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:30:28 PM »
Anyone have any pics of the bike trailers that you use for elk hunting. I am looking at the flat bed made by Burley for about $200.00. I was thinking of stripping all of the material off of the frame and making a rope weave bottom between frames.

Any thoughts or pics of your setups?

I just use my game cart. I am making a swivel bracket to attach it to my seatpost though to get rid of the rope.

Great idea! I have the same game cart and was thinking about doing the same thing.  Let me know how your swivel bracket turns out and if you dont mind shoot me some pictures when you are done.

Great Topic!  I am in the market myself.  Check Ebay out.  There is a trailer that looks interesting.  Also try Amazon.

I have a game cart too, might have to "steal" some ideas.  I have in the past used my old kiddies cart that I towed the kids around in.  I figured if I had my two youngins in it, I could ride a couple of quarters out each trip.  Funny thing, never got anything in the years I used to take it.

We usethat trailer for our deer camp. All in all it does pretty well, especilymformthe price. Doesn't quite hold the loads that the website claims but we just reinforced the bar that connects it to the trailer.  We packed out 8 deer quarters and two heads last year with it. I will try to dig up some pics later.

This is an Ameristep game cart http://www.ameristep.com/accessories/9800_cart.html. I took the old goose neck off of a kids one wheel bike that attaches to the seat post and a ball joint. Halled my moose out 1 mile behind a gate in two trips. 482 lbs of meat + the head and cape. My elk last year was two trips, walked two bags of meat out on two bikes to get the cart and the rest on the cart.

Almost seems like there is a demand for a nice custom cart,  maybe someone should get everyones input & build a few for extra cash.  I'm sure everyone on here would give great advice on what they want. Could be a niche.   All nice carts above, one observation is I hope the bike with the rifle on the handle bars doesn't take a spill !  Could easily ruin the whole trip, one wet rock that the front tire slips on. Ouch.  Hope everyone has a great season, my excitement / anticipation is building. 2 months and change till bow season. Mike

www.Hawkeyebilt.com fabs game trailers. Very nice trailers just alittle spendy at $450 most of them come with disc breaks. If you "youtube" them you can see their trailers in action.

$450 is a lot of dough for a trailer and innovation costs a lot less.  It seems like with a decent game cart, $50 and a half of day, most of the guys could figure out something.

The trick is getting it hooked to the bike and maintaining a low center of gravity. If you ever used one, you know that trailers can be a pain in the butt.
