You might want to look at your regs a little closer.....those fields in the Mt. Peak area are not the Mashel.....that is part of the Puyallup unit just for the record......Les

Hey, Les, they changed that to the White River Unit this year.

Oh yea.....I just looked at the regs and see that now. I guess that will be the WDFW defense to keep all of those guys from hunting the fields because they won't have the special permit....good strategy on their part. Thanks for the update. Boy, you have to go over the regs with a fine tooth comb any more every year..................Les

After the archery guys killed all the branched bulls in that herd last year, I'm not surprised at the change. That was pitiful watching those guys trying to stalk those elk in the fields, ony to push them to the guys hiding in the tree line. That's not hunting.

It was getting pretty ugly out there....made lots of ammo for the anti-hunters to state their case. It wasn't really hunting and there were just a few that had access on the private property that had all the advantage. One little change in the regs probably fixed the situation hopefully...............Les

Yeah your kinda right .... this has happened in my area too ... but the dept made the seasons so just can not blame it on the hunters UNLESS THEY BROKE THE LAW .......

I'm reading my 2011 regs for 653 (White River) and 652 (Puyallup):

".....NE on SR 410 to the White River; SE along the White River to the power transmission lines on the north side of the White River near Mud Mountain Dam Rd; NE on the power transmissionn lines to SR 410; E on SR 410......" etc.

Basically, the 653/652 boundary is described as going upriver from the White River bridge (just east of Buckley) over 410 to the power lines, then NE along the lines to meet 410 (close to the rock quarry). Go-Hunt maps duplicate the information.

I'm not the best with maps and directions (although I've never been truly lost), but from this description it appears the Mt. Peak elk are in the Puyallup GMU. King County has a firearm restriction zone and the elk there mostly stay on private farm land. If you get permission to hunt it would be a slam dunk.

I really enjoy watching those elk and would hate to see a slaughter out there. There's plenty of elk close to that area in the Puyallup GMU (almost hit one crossing the road yesterday).

Huge decrease in elk population over the past 20 years. Very publicized and a lot of info on it.

Don't bother hunting mt peak area I've watched so many road hunters driving by my house here today... disgusts me. At the same time it is funny cause most of these guys have no idea how little of property they would be able to hunt... gotta know people to  this herd. But good luck.

how little of property these guys can hunt is practically NONE... its all private, and the mt peak elk areas is not white river... people can think it is white river tho for sure if they want. and all the road poachers out there driving around the enumclaw fields.... there all private property, be real men and go hunting in the DAMN WOODS and out of your truck and not in a residential area ;)  were getting tired of you guys driving around in your camo looking to poke an elk off the road.... its getting old for people that live out there.

I've been up Crustal the last couple days. Seen a herd with small raggie and a couple spikes. It's been pretty quite on that side of the mountain.
