I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I finally drew the quality elk toutle tag, but last year's hunting revealed a spot where a huuuuge 6x6 was located. I've been archery hunting hard for elk for nearly 5 years (self taught) to no avail, and last year put me within 85 yards of that 6x6. I have no clue as to what the toutle unit holds, or where and how to hunt it. So do I go to where I know for sure holds elk (cuz I've seen them with my own 2 eyes), or do I go to the toutle unit blind? I've google earthed the toutle unit and notice a LOT of roads. I'm the kind of guy that will hike 5 miles or more to get in away from the crowds. From the posts here, the DNR land north of the south fork of the toutle river is where a lot of elk and a lot of hunters are. With the verbal lashings that I've gotten from my family while I come home year after year empty handed, I want to fill the freezer this year. As long as it's legal, I'll be happy. Can anybody tell me where the majority of the folks go in the toutle unit, so I can avoid the crowds and increase my chances of bringing something home? Message me if you don't want the info given to the masses.
