Kid drew Green river buck (youth) tag
« on: June 14, 2011, 06:27:19 PM »
Pretty excited.

He's not my son, but he's a kid I've known a long time.   He comes from a non hunting/fishing family, so I've been taking him the last 3 years.

So.... I don't know the Green River unit.....   tough to get into unless you draw.

any insight on how to scout/hunt it would be appreciated.   feel free to PM me.

Yeehaw!!!!

took a couple bucks out of there when I was much younger.  I would suggest looking for any loggers that may be operating in the area (if there are any), or talk to the employees about where logging may be going on.  We looked for clearcuts, but anything I knew of back then would be well grown over today.  Take your camera for pics of all the elk.  Good luck

My buddies dad drew a couple years ago.  He said it was a really easy hunt.  His dad shot a nice buck.

He will have no problem seeing bucks. With the dates this year if it is raining just drive around and you will see lots of does with bucks in tow.

Tell him congrats. I will talk to my buddies who have had the tag in the last couple years. They killed some great bucks. If I'm not mistaking the name we seen a  huge buck on pages flats. I will try and get some more info and help as much as I can.

just make sure you know where the main gate is, that tag at that time of year is a good hunt, nock on wood you wont have to work real hard for a nice buck, just try to get the kid to hold out for the first couple days and wait till he sees a wallhanger, and then take it to bucklucky to have a shoulder mount done, good luck to you and the kid

A 145" buck was killed in there last year. A friend of a friend had a doe tag in there and had seen a giant running some does but he didn't want to stop hunting so he moved on down the road and ran into security, so they were chatting when a guy pull's up and start's chatting also. Turn's out this guy has a buck tag and my buddies friend about came unglued with excitement. Told this guy he was gonna make him a very happy man follow me he say's. The buck was less than 100 yards from where he last saw him. The rest is history. I wish I saved the pic but since I didn't know the guy I showed it to a few peolple then got rid of it.  :sry:

Good luck and don't shoot a dink.

Hey Dan I sent you an email with a snapshot on the spot I got my deer last year. Also make sure you guys have a bear tag as there is a decent amount of bear activity up there. I should have purchased a bear tag last year because the guard that helped me get my deer out of the hole said he spotted several bears on his patrol that day really close to the area where I took my deer at. If I remember anything else i will make sure to pass it on to you guys.

Hey Furee,

Thanks so much for the great E-Mail.

I am so pumped for this kid I can hardly wait.

I'd be so pleased to return the favor sometime.

Cheers!

Sounds similar to a story I heard from one of my students who's Dad had drawn the same tag with a friend.  Here's the pic I got from him.

The company i used to work for had a bunch of property up there. I spent the last 5 years cruising timber up in there. PM me and I'll see if I can help you guys out. There are some large bucks up there.
