It's a good thing I'm not lookin for a cow then. A few soft cow calls and a cow decoy and we should be surrounded by Big Bulls. It should be fun....

When I was up high I did run into some of this but it wasn't as bad as folks were making it out to be.

And my trusty foot bridge finally washed out... a simple ford farther up stream was plan b.  This log used to go all the way across.

Some of the willows were behind and just budding out but in other parts the grass was growing really good.  It was a beautiful day.

Looking at those pictures I can almost hear the buzzing, and start slapping at the imaginary skeeters on the back of my neck  :chuckle:

I think I've hunted those spots.  Was it "sandy"?

Sandy?  No... the ground has been absorbing all the run off and was nice and firm.  I didn't make it down the "sandy" trail at all.  The mosquitos weren't bad in the evening or morning or away from the lakes as the snow just came off.  Give it two weeks and they will carry you away!

I was up there Saturday and was surprised at how little snow there was compared to rimrock.  Didn't see a single mosquito either (can't say the same for rimrock :yike:).  There wasn't a cloud in Washington either.  I know because I could see all the way to Mt. Hood!

If you drive along the rivers now you will see elk all over the valleys. My wife wonders why the hell it is so hard .  Come Sept opener in the Bumping you may catch them out the first few hours but after them seeing " activities " pick up they get smart real fast.  I hike a mile and a half up the ridge & hike in the dark for an hour before light to my stand. Opening morning they show up about 7:30 & feeding along,  next couple of mornings they are coming by at first light. After a couple of days they are up on the ridge in the dark & I am jumping them on the way. I have hunted up there for about 8 years and really like the area. Feels a little wild up where I hunt alone. Good luck with your bull tags ! Wish I had one . :bash:  If you guys with tags run out of ideas mid season & get desperate , send me a Pm. I will be up hunting & can do some calling. Mike
