Cracks me up how the new draw system now makes people pumped about drawing a second deer tag, when a couple years ago they were almost guaranteed if you wanted it.   :chuckle:

Yea, just another money draw for the state.  One day when I'm completely bored out of my mind I'm gonna put all the draw numbers into a spreadsheet and see how much money the state really is dragging off all of us hunters.  I'm guessing it's gonna be a pretty big $$$$.

Yeah, they were guaranteed because most people did not want to lose their points for a doe permit. Now, you can apply and only lose your points in the 2nd deer tag permit category.

Sounds like you'll be in the market for a new freezer then.

Better buy your tag before September when the new fee structure goes into effect. Under the new fee structure 2nd deer goes up to $62.00 I believe.

The latest info I saw on that showed that the 2nd deer tag didn't go up at all. But I don't know if that was from an official source.  Is there somewhere we can go to see the new fees?

Naive question on my part (never was drawn for a second deer tag before):  So you have to take another step and purchase a second tag in addition to paying for the permit application?  I had assumed (perhaps incorrectly it seems) that if you applied for a secondary tag and were drawn that they'd just send the tag since you already paid to apply for the permit and had purchased a primary deer tag...

I don't see anything wrong with them charging a fee for a 2nd tag. I sure wouldn't expect a free tag. But I also won't pay $62 if the price does go up. Right now it is $26 and I think that's a fair price, but I won't pay any more.

Have to agree, I would not pay $62 for a Decatur deer, especially a 60 pound doe....

I've heard deer 2nd tags will be $50.  Pretty steep if you ask me.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.
