A co-worker drew one of the Mt. Baker goat tags last year, get this.... on his first drawing application!   :bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:

He could've used your assistance then.  He's not allowed to carry a firearm so it was bow only for him.  He didn't put a whole lot of effort into it, only went out a couple Saturdays.  The closest he could get was 150 yards.  Guess what... he ate that tag.
:bash: I told him I could put him on a book billy but I think he was more interested in work.  :bash: I can't figure out why guys put in for OIL tags they can't or won't use.  :dunno:

I guess its worth saying that they saw two nice billies on Friday but weren't able to close the deal. 37 goats on Saturday but only a small (two or three year old billy - the picture of the lone goat) billy in a cliffed out spot.  They are heading back in this week to try to finish it off!

These goat tags aren't for the faint of heart. People like to talk about sheep shape... Gotta get in goat shape too. It's no walk in the park.

I would say that in general, a goat hunt is tougher/harder than a sheep hunt. Just my .02

Good luck!

Went in thursday morning, didnt see any goat til late in the afternoon.  They were too far away and not enough daylight left.  Friday morning there were not goats in the basin so wer hike up the snow field to the other side of Chowder Ridge.  Spotted one lone goat in the rocks and it was a long ways away.  We started working towards him and ran into a group of 28 in the Smith basin that we ran into the week before.  But this time there looked like there was a Billy.  At 600 yrds we moved closer, It was raining/snowing/sleeting with 30 mile an hour winds.  The goats got up from their beds and moved towards us.  The next thing we knew they were 175 yrds below us.  We confirmed it was a Billy.  I told Henry "I have a shot." and took it.  I hit him in the chest, Henry yelled "Anchor him."  which I did.  and he rolled, and rolled, and rolled.  He's not the biggest Billy, but a true trophy to me.  He has nine inch horns, and 5 and 3/8's bases.  At 55 years old this is the pinnacle of my hunting career.  Thanks to Steve Henry (my hunting buddy for 40 years.), our sons "the goat packers" and SHANVG for all the crucial information.  This country will kick your butt, mentally and physically, but is one of the most beautiful spots in the state.  I hope everyone has an oppurtunity to experience this hunt. - Camp Cook
