If you don't know already, make sure you go the training center and watch the video and get cleared to be out there.
I would check out the west end near e-burg.

I've hunted deer on the alkali 2 times and saw most the elk on the west side by the area that is permanently closed to non military personell, they travel off and on the closed area to the open area. I believe it's in or by area 4. The guards at the check in station will also give you some info, good luck.

Make sure you have good tread on your tires and I would carry a couple spares, the roads are nasty and sharp. Keep us informed, during your scouting take your rifle and kill some of those coyote's that are running around.

When ever the mood strikes you. Got to start sometime. Get to know that place well. Take a gps, you can get turned around in there pretty easy!

Hey Tanner, Congrats on the Bull tag (and your other tags too!). I'd go out and get registered asap, watch the video and get familiar with some areas. REMEMBER: do not put all your eggs in one basket. Have several options open because they might not let you into an area that you've been scouting all summer. Go talk to the biologist, his name is Brian Knapp. he's a real nice guy. I would also hang out out there during the archery and muzzy seasons and talk to the other hunters. You may learn a lot from them as well. Good luck and have fun!

Good number of elk in there and it is a huge unit, talk to the deer hunters they will tell you where the elk are, it is a little tougher to get "good" info from your competitors I had the tag 2 years ago and got mine. good luck

congrats on the tag young buck. i have hunted the alkali quite a bit. i got drawn back to back years in 04 and 05 for deer. and was also in there for my buddies tags. my best advice is spend as much time as you can in there learning the roads this summer. because where you want to hunt could be closed any day of your hunt. we seen bulls in area 8 . my buddy killed a big bull in area 2 i believe. i have seen elk in alot of the unit but most of the elk i seen were in area 2,3,4. hope this helps . if you need more help or questions pm me.
