Mtnmuley, how come the reg book says 5 tags? I had thought it was closer to 50 tags myself til I looked in the book last night.

Sorry, I was looking at the average points to draw, not the number of permits. That makes more sense!

I was there last winter hunting with some guys with doe tags.  We saw several bucks and tons of deer.  A couple bucks were very nice.  There was a lot of snow and it was around 5 - 10 degrees.  Make sure you have really good boots and good snow camo.  Good luck and keep us posted.

You will have a lot of fun; if you enjoy seeing a lot of bucks.  The first week of December is pretty much the end of the rut.  Bucks will still be tacking does during most of the hunt while losing interest toward the end of the season.  The girls are pretty alert so you may have better luck later when some older bucks are off by themselves BUT snow and weather conditions trump everything.

Good luck on your hunt, these are pics from that hunt last year, the second buck pic was shot through a spotter. The buck bedded in the last pic goes a little over 180, a buddy has his sheds.

If  I were bowhunting Muleys I would prefer to not hunt the rut.. they move waaay to much and are always around a lotta does. I prefer to stalk a bedded lone buck

You would be wise to invest in V-Bars for the front and rear too, it would be a shame to have that tag and not be able to get in there, snow machines are nice but I have watched loads of deer take off at the first sound of those things coming from a long way off. :twocents:

I'm pretty sure snow machines won't be legal for your hunt - during your dates anyway. ;)

There were some in there last year while we were in there, perhaps illegally but never the less still there.

Last year they were pushing for new laws re: snowmachines on the winter range. Fingers crossed.
