Well anyone that would be interested in grouping up...I am going to head over in August and scout the area.  I will mainly be focusing a majority of my time to the beginning of the season.  I will be hunting from Oct1-12 and if I am not lucky in between then I will come back towards the end of the month or the beginning of November.

I dont understand why people would be offended or angered at the fact that there are hunters asking fellow hunters for general advice.  Isn't that not half the point for a forum based website?  However I appreciate any and all criticism and advice.  Thanks. 

Its tacky... and shows a lack of class. Even if you stick around. I myself ask for help here from time to time.  Yes, that is one of the best reasons to have a forum.  However, there is a good way and a not-so-good way to go about seeking information. Go look through the introductions page and see people who were complemented for good first posts... They put up pictures, share stories, etc. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Opening morning is months away. It wouldn't have made much of a difference in your scouting and preparation to spend even just a week contributing to discussions, offering to connect with other hunters, or even offering some advice yourself. Big contrast to talking in the door and basically saying "hi, I'm new--give me free s*."

I have turkey hunted in Colville before but have never been any further northeast in Washington.  Would it be better to concentrate towards the corner of the state or southern part of the unit?  I just want any knowledge that I can recieve prior to scouting and hunting due to the fact that its about a nine hour drive one way from my residence and I am limited to the time off I can take from work.

Heres one we got last year on the second day.  Should of had one on the first day but it did not work out we saw 14 moose on the first and 4 the second 30 mins into hunting.  Good luck   soory the pics are with a cell phone.  Oh yea it is 46.5 wide and scores 156 3/8.  and yes my brother is trying to deliver the baby

Most of the time Bentley its because people ask the question then never return.  They don't bother to answer questions or share their hunt etc.   You appear very interactive with your post which is a Thumbs up to a great start.  Have any ideas what you are planning?  amount of vacation, other hunts, etc, or time of year.  Plan on using your rifle or your bow?  Trophy standards?  Able to attack the mountain or what style of hunt do you like?

If I get organized I think I am about to sell all of my moose calling videos.  I think I have figured out how to do it by now.   .  If you are interested in learning how to call for them, thats a good start.

The whole unit is full of moose.  Its a matter of picking the hunt that is for you.  Depending on what time of year you are planning you will have different influences.  Elk hunters, whitetail hunters, rut, weather, onlookers, photographers, etc.    Let us know what you are thinking, and I'll try to narrow down your pitfall list.

I shot mine on the westside of the 306 road last year on november 3rd.I saw 3 other bulls and some cows.It was good time to hunt if you have an eastside elk tag.I didn't get an elk,But saw one of the biggest bulls I've ever seen during open season.

Nice Shiras Moose!!!! I appreciate the story and pics because it not only excites me to see anothers success, but it also gives me a clue as to what I am looking for when it comes to a trophy Shiras (as they are the smallest of the moose family).  I believe the books require a score of 130.  Man I can't wait for October.  I have a lot to learn before then though....Master the moose horn...

The minimum is 125 inches for Pope and Young and 140 for Boone and Crockett. Also, I would suggest learning to call with your mouth, it makes it much easier and IMO sounds a whole lot better than any man-made moose call that I have heard.

From what I have encountered, I am taking off Oct1-11 and also have Nov14-22 off and a few three day weekends in between (originaly reserved for deer season but my priorities have took a sudden change).  I am bringing both my bow and 300WM.  If I can get a close shot I want to take it with my Black Ice. However, I want a backup plan for that trophy who is out of range.  I am capable of tackling any sort of terrain and obstacles however my hunting counterparts may not be.  Is the first of the season the best time to hunt for moose?  Should I pack my bow around along with my rifle and pistol?
