Thompson Center Shock Wave's for Elk?
« on: June 16, 2011, 05:23:19 PM »
Anyone used or using the "Shockwaves" for Elk ? used them on the eastcoast whitetail deer hunting(250g 50cal.) but never for Elk. Shots were from 25 to 75yrds so I never recovered a single slug, but they flattened whitetails
Anyone?
I thought about moving over to the Barnes TMZ 290g

Bullet weight thoughts for elk out of a ML? the SW's are 250g that I have....was looking at say 250,290 or 300g'ers

Can not help you with the SW thoughts but I can tell you I use a Lehigh now called a Knight Bloodline .458-300 grain for elk during our rifle season over here and a .503-460 grain Bull Shop Conical during our ML season as we are still required to use a full bore lead conical.

Another Lehigh/Bloodline that I would consider is a .458-275 grain DOA. You can find it in this picture

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

I use the 300 gr bonded shockwave. Worked great on my bull. If you do a search for shockwave you should see my post and pictures of the bullet after the kill.

Even if I tried to tell you about their performance - you would not believe it until you harvest with one... But they are a premium bullet and cost more than the average duck..  One really great thing... they are equally good from 20 yards to 200 yards..

Check here for more information

or here - this is the company that makes them..

Click on products on the left - then go to ML bullets...

I like the 295 power belt hollow points.  They are fast and do a number on elk.

I used 250 grain Shock waves on my Elk, with 110 grains of 777.   I was going to use 300 but all the rest of the muzzy rat *censored*s had bought them all.   :chuckle:  I wanted to practice a lot  (300+ rounds)  and the 250's were the only one I could find in large numbers.  I think the bullets are very accurate and worked well.  Both Bullets were recovered while skinning.  I think for Elk I would up the 777 to 120 and hope to punch clear through for a better blood trail.  I have had good luck with them.
