BLACKROCK RANCH YOUTH HUNT
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:28:22 PM »
My son drew the youth any elk tag. The only info I have is what is in the game regs. and the little info on this site. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this hunt. If not, I guess I will soon learn.

Out of curiosity, how many points did your son have to throw at that tag?  I put my son in for it this year but, no luck

I heard that one of the Dad's a couple years ago on one of these ranch hunts, wouldnt let his kid shoot a 5x5 because it was the first day of the hunt. WTF is wrong with people?  I would have loved to shoot ANY 5x5 before I turned 16!

Your kid should be in for a great hunt and hopefully he connects on a good bull.

One of my students drew this tag when she was 14.  Shot a 5x5.  She couldn't have been happier.  She said that she knew there were bigger bulls in there, but she only had a couple of days to hunt and it was the best one she saw so she dropped the hammer.  Of course it is a ranch, so what is in there depends on what hops the fence that week... :dunno:

My boy drew one of the cow tags. I have been trying to dig up as much information as I can. There just isn't much out there. Maybe we will find out more when the packet comes. I also was hoping someone on here had done this hunt before and would kind of give us a heads up on what to expect. If not I will keep some detailed information for the next kid that get's drawn. My boy is all jacked up on going out and smoking a slick head. I do believe we are going shooting this weekend. That 7mm08 is already a tack driver but I think he has the fever already.  :chuckle:

That would be great if you could keep the info to pass along.  My son is 9 and has many years of applying ahead of him and any info in the future would be great

I considered applying for a cow permit in this area and I talked to Don at the Pasco WDFW office.  He was a good guy to talk to and he was actually helpful with a lot of information.  You guys may want to try and call him at: Office 509-545-2012 or Cell 509-521-3100.

Hopefully this helps you guys out.

He had 6 points, this is his last year as a youth and he has a archery tag so this will be no slam dunk. A Chance at any bull would be fine for him, he also drew a unit 38 wyoming elk tag and I have a west wenaha muzzy tag, so this will be a busy fall. Thanks for all the info from everyone. Hopefully we will have some good stories and pics for ya all.

My son drew the any elk tag last year for the silver dollar ranch over there and it was a complete joke. We got 1 call on a Saturday evening to hunt the next day problem was we were up in the woods and did not get the message until sunday night. the next call came in October while we were deer hunting and I said we could be there the following weekend and he said OK because he had a cow and a calf that had been on the ranch the last week or so. I asked about getting a bull and he said that by that time of the season the bulls have moved back onto the hanford we declined to shoot the cow or calf and never got another call! I hope blackrock does a better job getting your son/daughter a bull one problem is the big bulls are  saved for paying customers at least that's what I was told?

I hope the Blackrock isn't like that. I have read some negative stuff on here about that Silverdollar hunt. The tag is good through march 31st so I was kind of thinking about seeing if we could hit it during December after the late deer hunts. I don't know much about the area but I was hoping that the elk would be settled down and pushed on the private property? Am I right? Or do I jump on it right away?
