Blues muley permits?
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:16:01 PM »
Anybody draw one or know of anyone that drew?
Haven't seen anyone post on here yet with one of the muley permits. I guess this year they're mostly "Any buck" permits which I don't think is a bad thing.

Does the Watershed deer hunt count as a blues permit.

Heck yeah it does. I missed your post on that.
Should be a good one as long as you don't mind steep and deep.

I should be ready for steep and deep as I will be just getting back from a high country backpack deer hunt in Colorado.

A good buddy of mine put his kid in for the wenaha muzzy permit and he drew for that end of Sept hunt for deer. Pretty tough tag for a 14 year old to fill but hopefully he will do it. I may come along if time permits to help and film bulls. Probably will focus on the west wenaha due to time and school. nwhunter

You know, I wonder if those Watershed Tags a should actually be special draw tags..  It seems appealing because you cant hunt out there for deer, but the people I have talked to who got bull tags in there didn't see deer.  Maybe earlier in the year it is better though, hope to see some pics if someone knocks one down!

Not too many deer to see in the Blues once you get into the mountains.  They're not the Entiat type hunts where you see 100 deer in a day. The biologist down there last year told me to expect to see 20 deer a day. That made my heart drop when he said that.

Yeah, if I see deer during season up high I am happy, they are far and few between.  I hope for the tag holders sake the Watershed is thick with bucks to make to hike in and out worth it.

I'm sure that whoever was fortunate enough to draw any of them permits this year will have their work cut out for them and hopefully are nicely rewarded for it. It will be very nice for them if they end up with a packout like I had last year.

The biologist (now retired I think) that worked to get the hunt set up in the first place says there are not many deer in there at all any more.  But, he said there are some very nice bucks.  He was going to apply for it himself.  Very tough hunt, but should be rewarding.

When I applied for this unit I knew there were low deer densities.  I just hope there are 5 big boys left in there, one for each of us tag holders. ;)

I'm pretty much hit or miss on these forums, but I drew the LickCreek quality tag.  I'll be looking for a wall-hanger, as they don't smell or taste great that late in the year!

I have never seen a good muley buck in the Watershed.  Of course, I have never actually been INTO the WS, but I have glassed into it from the edges a lot.  Not saying they're not in there, just that I have never seen one... :twocents:

Deer hunting in the watershed is going to be tough imo.  I was in there for elk in 07 and scouted several trips and hunted down into the center every day.  We also drew elk tags this yr and have been there twice this year and planning to head up again tomorrow.  In total I have seen 2 bucks in the shed, both were decent, only one was worth real attention.  I did see him a few times earlier this month...  would trade a little info  for some elk info from the deer hunters...

Saw a few elk, a bear and a goat. Not much activity up there I think because of the overcast/rain we got. Heard a few bulls bugles, it seemed pretty dead this year. I hope it starts to get more active.

That's about the understament of the year.  Quiet, quiet, quiet...  The rain and cool weather helped a little this weekend, but they were still pretty quiet.  We couldn't buy a sound on Saturday night.   :bash:

My pops drew the watershed elk tag a couple times in the late eighties early nineties and said he saw two of the biggest mulie bucks he has ever seen in his life, and trust me we have seen some huge deer. But *censored* that was back in the day. Who knows lmao
