Getting to spend a lot of time now down in Texas with the wife having to attend the USASMA course. So getting to do some exotics. Have a group of hunters getting ready to go on a sheep hunt so hopefully will be getting in six or seven different ones.

Enjoy

ok, want one on my wall.

Great job!  Love axis deer.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

First thank you all for the comments. And secondly I used to think it was expensive to go on these hunts down here also. But it's really not. The first thing you got to find is how big the property is. There are some down here that will make you hunt in a 50 acre pasture, so be aware of that. There are other ranches down here that are 2500- 6000 sq acres that are high and low fenced. Then you got to ask about being allowed to stalk and shoot or if you have to be in a stand. So that also determines what you are going to do. Then what weapons they allow on their property. I did a ton of research down here and one of the hunts that I will be going on this Dec is archery, 1800 sq acres, must be in a stand not allowed to stalk. I am taking a whitetail over 7 points, an (axis, blackbuck, sika or fallow) two rams of different species, 4 pigs and a turkey for 1400.00.   That is lodging included but you have to bring and make your own food. Ok well actually that will be doubled because the wife wants to hunt also. And with her being deployed last year and then in school all this year til june of 2012 with a one week break in Mar that is all she will be able to hunt.

Thanks again

Looks great Joe, don't forget to let me know when you head on that trip later this year so I can fly over. If I get an Axis I plan on having you do the full mount on it... Can't wait!!!

A full mount???  Holy crap you better get promoted again.... LMAO. Will have lots of free time and will be a fun project.

He got it in April. He is getting ready to get out of here and head to Germany so got it done in a couple of months for him. But if you are asking because of the velvet Axis deer to not have a set rut period so you can go and have some in velvet, some not in velvet and some with no horns at all. They can have babies any time of the year also so it is pretty cool to talk to the ranchers and learn things like this.

Thanks

Joe, I was reading on the Axis Deer and from what I read the dominant buck's shed their velvet to show their dominance and the smaller bucks keep their velvet.

oh here you go.....

Axis bucks can be in hard horn any time of the year. They grow and shed antlers on their own clock so in one herd there may be a newly shed buck, a hard horn buck and a buck in the velvet. Usual antlers are 22 to 27 inches. Trophies range from 30 to 36 inches. Axis have a typical antler structure of three points on each side consisting of a main beam, one secondary point halfway up the beam, and a brow tine. Four points on a side are not uncommon.

Letys not worry about how the how or why lets just worry about who's cooking chow!!!!  LMAO
