What do all of you early season elk hunters do for mosquitos? I know the area I hunt has a ton and I still haven't found a solution. :dunno:

I just use bug spray. I know that I will smell funny to the critter so I just play the wind and assume if they are downwind they'll smell me and if they are not they won't

Thermacell...can turn it on when the bugs are bad...turn it off when spot and stalk.  If you put on bug spray...you can't take it off.  Yes If you are upwind they'll probably smell you no matter what...but hopefully a slight change in wind won't kill approach path of an elk if you have a smaller scent signature.

How long do they actually last?  The web-site said the Matts last approxiamtately 4 hours, but what about the butane?  And is this accurate.

Could you set up a couple of these on the ends of the awning of an RV and keep the mosquitos away from the sitting area underneath said area and keep all the mosquitos out?  I guess what I am asking is the 15 x 15 area an accurate statement?  And is it cumulative when using multiples that are spread out.?

For keeping bugs off me i used some of those mesh bug suits that have leaves attached.. I got my sweatpants and jacket for 70$ from walmart several years ago. It also had a hood and face shield. it kept mosquito's off me, and hornets away from my face while sitting. I can't handle them crawling over me.  :twocents: I like the suit for earlie season because in the morning i wore synthetic sweat pants over my shorts and the cammo over it... and a synthetic pullover under the coat. I just pealed away the layers and the day heated up... stayed relatively sweat free as well.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I have a camo jacket with hood/face mesh combo by BUG TAMER.  It is honestly the best piece of clothing I own.  Has saved me from being eaten many many times.  I also have their mittens.  I recommend their stuff to anyone who gets attacked by mosquitos as bad as me.
