Master Hunter Region 4 Elk
« on: June 20, 2011, 07:16:48 AM »
Okay, I know that I don't have a lot of post, but any buddy know a good spot to kill an elk in this hunt? Just kidding, I know that i have to wait for a call before I can go. My intent is to hear more from some of you that know why they would do this and in which areas are they having problems in, other then North Bend. Yes, I drew this tag. Hoping to get more info and not looking for hunting area. I would assume that the Hunt Master is going to tell me where to hunt.

Thanks.
Ken

That’s a new hunt but you may or may not get a call to hunt somewhere and there may or may not be elk where they send you to hunt.  If it runs like their new hunts in the past, the WDFW will forget all about it and not even assign a hunt coordinator to it.

Good luck.

Nice draw, though. I hope you get called. I'd imagine if you do, they'll tell you were to find the problem critters. The MH program does present some good opportunities. Although I didn't draw a tag this year, I still think it's a great program that shows hunting in some of its best light. Good luck.

I know that I might not get a call, but was looking for more of the areas in the Region 4 that are having a problem with the elk. Oh, I'm hoping that I get a call and that there are going to be elk on the property. But at the same time I know that it is not a for sure thing. Thanks guys.

The hunt could be anywhere in region 4 outside of the two elk areas (Skagit & North Bend).  My guess is it would be close to those areas where elk may wander outside of those boundaries.

The regional permits are new this year.  In prior years all the MH hunts were restricted to specific areas.  By providing regional permits, the state can utilize the hunters to address problems anywhere in a region.

That may or may not be a good thing for the permit holder: time will tell since this is new.  In theory there should be more opportunities because whenever there is a problem anywhere in a region, the state could call on a permit holder.  The downside is that the regional staff may not consider this a high priority because of everything else they have to do.

Good luck.

Region 4 includes all of King, Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties.  There are elk problems in all the counties although hunting is not the only means of addressing them.
