Vet in W.washington that has a payment program?
« on: June 20, 2011, 12:37:53 PM »
looking for a quality vet that has some sort of payment program in western washington in king or snohomish counties. I really need to get my dog to a vet to get checked out but being broke as a joke I need some sorta way of paying it off over time.
Here's what my buddys going through as of his last episode....

took him camping last week and he does this thing where he just gets crazy ( running around fast, trying to get chased ) but WAY overboard with it then like clockwork after about 5 minutes of that he stops, usually lays down and acts like hes is drunk, head bopping, kind of a wobbly walk when he does and leaking urine out his you know what. when this happens i usually just make him lay down give him some water and alittle food but since we were camping and there were other dogs around he wouldn't have any of that and kept on playing around with the other dogs untill I found him laying on the ground not moving breathing hard and heart rate through the roof. This isn't the first time this has happened but this was definitely the extreme and it scared the hell out of me, ended up just putting him in my truck ( where he puked all over my favorite shirt ) with some water and he was fine in the morning.

if anyone has seen or delt with this before any information would be greatly appreciated because I really don't know whats going on with him.
oh and hes a 1yr old lab if that helps

I have a buddy that is a vet...They don't take payments because many people flake on the bill. The only thing your going to find is using your credit card...  Last time i went to my vet he gave me a basic breakdown of what everything was gona cost before they even started... You arn't likely to find one that takes payments, so bust out the plastic.  :twocents:

You may check with some offices that accept CareCredit, that is likely the only way you will be able to pay over time.

You also might want to google the symptoms of "EIC" Exercise induced collapse of labradors.
I would get him in soon, if you can't for awhile, DO NOT ALLOW him to run like crazy until you can get him evaluated (crate him if needed be and leash walks only) :twocents:

if I had plastic I would use it, but credit cars are the devil and I don't touch em'

quad- thanks googled and found some good info on it, it seems similar but I'm not 100% , his back legs seem to be fine when this happens and in the article they say that they will give out on the affected dog.

Hope he can get him in and rule out some of the other possibilities just to be sure!

keep him kenneled and avoid that until you can figure something out. I too was in a similar spot years ago. Call WSU. They will typically help you out with stuff like this. Between the folks here on the page I'd bet we can probably organize a ride to WSU somehow if you can get in touch with them and get an appointment set up.

You obviously have the internet. Goggle WSU Vet Hospital and get on the phone. They offered to do some treatments on my first Chessie when she got hurt about 10 years ago and I was out of work and didn't have the cash to get her to a vet. Great program and great people there but, again, you'll still need to do some leg work. I'm sure we can pull folks together here for some ride share to get her there if needed.

Call WSU find out if they can help and keep us informed. PG

Well, I know that it is a little far but Firgrove Veterinary clinic on South Hill in Puyallup takes payment plans. I have had rather large vet bills and they are pretty accomodating when it comes to that.  A we bit south but maybe worth the trip.

With the state budget cuts (WSU VET MED has been very hamstringed--I'll bet) I would imagine the best they can do is the care credit. Sorry. Wish I had more to offer.
Remember that just because the usual animals respond a certain way, doesn't mean they all do. So I doubt that this article is too far off. You may google some other sites, but still I think a hands on, with some lab work would be appropriate, to rule out other possibilities.

Don't know what to think about the wazzu reccomend......................they gouged the pee wadding out of my buddies old man for 2800 bucks for a barbed wire accident on a griffon..............under the guise of "Emergency" care on the weekend, had I been along the stapler would have been so hot you couldn't have touched it. Kulshan Veterinary in Lynden........way north has payment plan options with credit approval.

you get some sort of health guarantee on that dog from the breeder? 1 year old is awfully young to start heading down the vet bill road.....................it's never gone good for me the farther down the road...it gets worse.

Sounds VERY similar to the Hypoglycemia that my pointer had..............which pretty much makes the dog worthless as a working dog.Run till exhaustion then get wobbly drunk acting and  have a freak out seizure.Didn't happen on the pointer until he was 5 but he was unhuntable at 7.The thing is that one thing leads to another in some cases and when you have problems at 1 year old be prepared for them to magnify into others  as time goes on.

Sorry if I missed it, but what city are you in?  Also, how much exercise does this guy usually get?

quadrafire....thanks for posting that. That is exactly what the problem was with my choc. lab. I bought him and started training him for hunting after I lost my first lab. this started to happen when he was about 4 months old and never got any better. He never went hunting with me.....I didn't want to chance anything, so he became a family pet and nothing more. Great dog...he is now 13 years old and sadly I will have to put him down very soon.

Bearmtn...I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.
Just one more day

In 2002 my female sustained a back injury. I was recently laid off. WSU vet hospital offered do perform MRI and initial diagnostics at a fraction of what other vets said it would cost due to my situation of being unemployed. Needless to say, Ellensburg Animal Clinic ended up being very helpful and allowed me to pay what I could afford. At any rate, WSU trip didn't end up happening but, I had an appointment and they fully understood I had no money in my pocket and were going to do the work for the health of my dog, not the thickness of my pocketbook.

Much of WSU's vet program is run by donations. It is because of the health of the WSU Vet Program Boosters that they can offer such a fine program and animal care at such a reasonable cost. Not sure about the $2,800 bill but, they offered to help my dog for free or, what I could afford for a donation.

If you look on their website, she is listed as a former pet that has passed away. Her name is Sima. She passed away a few years after her back injury and a donation was made in her name to the program.
