It was meant for people that apply for it with no intention of using it.

Why would anyone do that? Why take the time and money to apply for something you won't use? Lord knows WDF&W doesn't make it easy. Makes no sense to me. :dunno:

You guys are acting like children and blowing this all out of the proportion. I was not referring to heart attacks and deaths and all of that. It was meant for people that apply for it with no intention of using it. Rick you have had lots of health problems so this does not even apply to you!

I agree with catwithboost here on this. Obvious there are going to be some unforeseen circumstances and that's not the bitch. The bitch is that there are those guys who apply with no intentions on going or just want the tag for status symbol and then there are those who apply just to apply. There's others with the intent on going but family, work or other issues come about. I feel the same way if you apply than use if you can, but to apply with no intent on using than ya quite there is those of that would use it. I don't think he was addressing to anyone in particular, more as he was complaining about those that get it and don't plan on using it. I agree if you don't plan on using it than don't apply plain and simply!! No reason to jump all over him for stating his opinion.
Hunting and Fishing is not what I do. But who I am...

Again, who are these people? Do they exist? What type of status do you gain?

There are a lot of factors with the special hunts which can make plans go south. I believe MikeXray had a good one. The draw should ideally be done before the end of January in my opinion. That way people can prepare for it and also make alternate plans in case they do not draw. Still... It doesn't mean that some people will not hunt. I had a hard time doing anything last september through january due to my father's bad health. He finally died the day after I left him to go to my daughter's first birthday party. I had a multi season deer tag that could have been considered wasted due to the amount of time I "missed" looking for critters. I also had a hard time with the engine of my truck last fall which I had to replace around mid september. That's a lot of money down the drain when compared with a little bit of gas here and there. In the end life dealt me the cards and I did my best to do what is right. I am pretty grateful for some spare time nowadays.

I applied for a spring bear tag this year. By the time the draw happened I had already changed gears and had been committed to a trip to Europe. Family rules over hunting. Originally I was not going until the last week of may but there was a monkey wrench thrown in at the last minute. I suppose the alternative would have been to divorce my wife and disown my kid or hunt a bear if I had drawn that tag. Glad I didn't though.

I never met someone that bought a tag they didn't want to use. They are not cheap. I suppose anti hunters would though..

I was in the perrygin unit about five years ago during the late hunt and I watched an older guy stop his truck and shoot a doe on the third day of the season.  We talked to him and he Said "this deer tastes good the big ones don't" He was strictly after a doe. His tag his choice. good for him for having a successful hunt.   I don't care what people do with there tags, its there life.

I try hard to only apply for tags that I intend to use but sometime circumstances that are out of my control force me to change my plans....... I just pulled my New Mexico elk and deer apps out of the draw as I would rather hunt Idaho this year and didnt want to take a tag from someone who would die for the chance.

I will shoot a doe any day of the week. I applied for a doe hunt this year. I do care that anti hunters don't get the tags. I have to say that it should be sold to someone who possesses a hunting license and intends to hunt.

I saw the same thing a few years back in the Quinault unit during a rut hunt for Rosies. Only 5 tags, 3pt or better or anterless. Opening morning a couple hundred yards from the road this guys kills a 3pt dink and is happy as all get out. It is a hard draw and most people kill decent bulls, but he was happy.

Stupid Idea #167:

Maybe a way to give your permit to another hunter? Sell?

Wildlife sells off all the game in this state...I see no reason why a hunter who at the last minute cannot go, could not (with proper documentation) give the permit to a friend who can go...

Back to Icemans comment. If it was done before the season started I feel that that would be a good way.

seems like theres quite a few folks who cant just read something and take it as someone's opinion. everyone seems like they have to set someone straight. everyone has to get offended. "I MUST RESPOND B/C  THEY DIDNT GET MY SITUATION RIGHT!" lotta folks get real upset.. in fact, as soon as this is posted, someone will read it,, get mad, upset or my favorite,"offended" and let fly with some post how yadda yadda yadda.. everyone knows better than anyone else.. twas i, i wouldnt get so mad at it.. hell, i would even let it pass.

My problem with transferable tags........ If you have a lobby group then you can get your whole family and pile of friends that don't hunt to put in for you.  This may be extreme as it would cost you a frinckin fortune, but you could seriously get all your fishing buddies to put in for 5 bucks then get your tag.  I see it alot on the Rez where cousins, aunts and grandmas who have ZERO intention of hunting, put in for th emoose tag, then have the hunter of the family go get a moose, elk or whatever it is they need a tag for, which isn't much, but thats a different thread.
