big bucks sturgeon trip 6/7/08
« on: June 08, 2008, 09:12:06 PM »
well, saturday was the day that we went sturgeon fishing with huntnphool. it was a great day and am glad we got to go and put some faces to the names...it was a pleasure meeting you guys and spending the day shooting the *censored* and catching a few fish on the big C.
the day started off with a bang when what seemed like about 10 minutes after we got the lines in the water...boneaddict hooked up. i think we all thought we were in for a great day  of fishing. this fish ended up being the biggest of the day at 42". we got 6 fish all together, all sublegal. wd-40 or not, we couldn't put a legal fish in the boat...nonetheless it was a great day on the water meeting some new friends. our guides huntnphool and wf70gonehuntin know their stuff on that water and showed us how it was done.
here's bone's fish....
putting the horses to him:

getting a little advice from wade:

and what ended up being a pisscutter sturgeon.

Well I just got home and pulled the essentials out of the boat, will clean it up and post pics and more to the story tomorrow evening I have to be in Anacortis in 8 hours and need a little sleep before I drive another couple hours. Today the river looked like being on a lake, hardly a ripple most of the day and sunshine, yes I said sunshine. M-Ray even had to put shorts on but more to the story tomorrow.

Thanks for getting the pics up Jack.  I'm glad the ones of 50 cal turned out.  I wasn't sure what setting you had, I just started shooting.  Fun doesn't describe it.  The commraderie was way better than the fishing, but it was awesome to catch my first sturgeon.  I also caught the smallest for the day.  I joked about spraying him with wd-40 and tossing him back in as bait.  See him in about 300 years.
MRay in shorts :yike:   Hope it wasn't like the dude next to us in a tanktop that we couldn't decide was a man or a woman.  :chuckle:
HELLUVA day guys.
I tried to get Jack on film with his, but they went and quick released on me byt he time I found his camera.  I guess we'll just have to catch another one.

Sorry you all had to miss M_ray in shorts, I would have joined him but I had dressed for fowl weather and would have looked very interesting with my hunting boots on and shorts  :yike:

You will see what the weather was like when I can post up some photos, it was a glorious day to say the least.

I'll post up some pics when I figure out how to process them, Right now I have to take the kids to the bus, I'll be back shortly !!!

Hey Jack, how'd the kiss pic turn out.  I wasn't ready for her to put the lips on me. My expression should have been priceless.

OK !!

First I want to send a huge Thank You very much out to our guides, they did an outstanding job in showing myself and the two boys (Chris_D and Josh's brother Jamie) a fantastic fishing adventure. Thank You Rob and Waid for your hospitality and generosity in this event, You treated us like family and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with you guys, we truly appreciate everything you have done and are doing for our nephew and brother and son and grandson and friend.

If anyone of you are ever invited to go and do something with these two guys, drop whatever you are doing and go, I assure you you will not regret it !!!

The only regret I have about this entire weekend is that I didn't take more time to spend with the guys that fished on Saturday, There was so much I would have liked to talk about with you all and personally thank everyone for their donation to my nephews care fund, after you all arrived at the launch I have to admit I was a bit intimidated by the giants that got out of that boat, you guys are something else, Maybe I will run into some of you again, it was a real pleasure for me just to be there and shake your hands.

Now for the painfull part !!

I am told by the two boys that were keeping score that we boated 12 Sturgeon and two of them were keepers one was Huntnphool's 45 1/2" the other was M_ray's at 47 1/2".  Jamie caught 2 and one was 42" and the other was 39" and Chris_D's two sturgeon were sub-legal but we took some pictures anyway.

The weather was glorious all day as you will see from the pics, foul weather gear was not necessary, the water was so calm at times the only ripple was from the sturgeon splashing on the surface while playing tag with each other and working on their tan  8)

Here is the crew loading the weapons.

and Jamie with his first sturgeon on.

Turns out this one was a bit unruly for Jamie to handle so the captain renders some assistance.

and the battle is won !!

Do I see a look of aprehension ??

Next is Chris with his first dinosaur ever !!

Not too sure if he is having a good time or not  :dunno:

OH yep !! now I am convinced !!

Next is M_ray's turn but it will require its own post so I'll BRB !!!

EXCELLENT.   Looks like I had Chris D mixed up with Jamie.  Oh well.

What....you guys let MRay catch the biggest fish.  We won't ever live that one down.

First I want to say that it was a pleasure to meet M_ray finally and to spend the day with him, some how the stories behind the pictures becomes much more realistic when told in person, Thanks Mark, I (we) really enjoyed your company on the boat.

M_ray has the first keeper of the day and it is an acrobat, what a rush !!

On the stringer Nice Work !!  :chuckle:
