Dont' think it matters which day you put in..first or last. I'd say good for him, must have had some points built up. Maybe he should join the site and tell us about his upcoming hunt.

People on here give all sorts of crap for people waiting til the last minute to put in for the draws. I say who cares when you put in. They give a deadline to put in. If you're driving in a 55mph zone, you don't get a ticket for doing 55 do you?

Lucky son of a! I put in for that unit first choice every year and same result not drawn. You would think 8 points would get it done. He should have a great hunt tell him good luck!

I think that more people like to hunt the entiat because of its tendency to be more open and people can drive or walk the roads and glass. Overall more people put in for it and may see more deer for the most part and there are more that winter there. But you asked better and for me I like the Chiwawa better as it is more of a challenge. I know others are going to dispute that. Both need snow to make them better for the migration. Both have potential to get a nice buck out of them. You will find the lottery deer tag winner will usually hunt the Entiat. Alot of the Chiwawa doesn't get hunted as it is a larger unit too. I just like the Chiwawa because I hunt it during the regular season and spend alot of time hiking it.

I agree alot of people put in for entiat because of the name, chiwawa is a great unit and im glad it doesn't have all the roads the entiat unit has and weather plays a huge role in your hunt but i know there is dandy local bucks that live in the unit all year long

Congratulations on your buddy pulling a great tag.  All of those units are great and have big deer.  If you put in your time in any of them you will probably shoot the biggest deer of your life.  I shot what was supposed to be the biggest my first time every hunting in the Chiwawa during the general rifle season, just a big local deer.  Seven years later I shot a 160 with my bow in Entiat when it was open for a general bow season.  And two years ago I shot a 150 in Swakane, again with my bow.  There are big deer in all of those areas if you put in your time, if you get real lucky it might be one of the biggest in the state, but it will probably be the biggest one on your wall.  People that come to my house tell me all the time man those are big deer... but I have seen bigger.  I reply yeah I have too but these ones made it on my wall.... how many do you have?
You guys should have a great time, hopefully you get the right weather combo of snow but not crunchy snow, post up the pic's after the hunt and hopefully it is the biggest deer of his life.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
