Handgun shooting
« on: June 24, 2011, 10:24:45 AM »
Was wondering what the proper way to shoot is.  Should you keep your elbow bent slightly or should you keep it locked while shooting?  Never really had given it much thought before.

Bent.
'I guess if I could have had but one rifle during all the years I hunted, it would have been the .44 (Winchester) .....it was no long range cartridge.....but for just plain every day use to put meat in the pot, it was a difficult cartridge to beat.'

YouTube.com is always a great resource for learning things you don't know.

Go to ShootingUSA.com.  Click on Pro Tips.  Then watch the instructional videos of Jerry Miculek and Phil Strader.  They include things like stance, grip, target acquisition, etc.  Very informative videos.

There are many shooting styles, most round down to basics that are very simular.

Here is Brian Hofner's video on stance

Todd Jarret has some good ones on Youtube as well.  He's a pretty small guy, and just watch the recoil, (or lack of) when he shoots.  We used to videotape each other at IPSC and steel matches, and it's amazing what a difference a proper grip and stance will make.
