Lake Fishing
« on: June 27, 2011, 10:03:46 PM »
So I went out to Gran Coulon state park today in Renton and went fishing in the South side of lake washington and had very little luck. I only caught one fish and it was only about 9" long. I was doing the conventional egg weight, swivel, leader, and hook with a worm with 6 pound test mono line. I was wondering if I should invest in a baitcasting rod and reel and fish with all of the wonders of tackle that I could use instead of just the conventional setup with a spinning rod and reel that I previously described. I've been fishing for my entire life and have had lots of success, accompanied with days of no luck. I just wanted your opinions to which is generally more successful. Thanks! :IBCOOL:  :fishin:

BTW: I am talking about lake fish other than bass, if I were to fish for bass more often I would surely buy a baitcasting rod and reel and use the tackle.

This time of year the weeds get pretty tall in the lakes....I would stick with the rig you are using but maybe try to use a longer( 6ft+) leader and fill the worm with air so it stays above the weeds....if your worms are smaller you can use a marshmellow or corky to float it up also...keeping it above the weeds is important as most of the fish except for bass and perch will try to stay above the weeds to avoid predators..........
I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian

I saw a woman wearing a sweat shirt with "Guess" on it...so I said "Implants?"
