.270 116 FCSS savage?
« on: June 26, 2011, 01:18:18 PM »
Anyone ever shot this gun or have one?  Thinking about purchasing one this coming week.  Overall reviews seem to be positive.

Poor guy, no one had any love for a .270 in a 116? Did you ever get one? I dont think you can go wrong with that caliber or the rifle. Great "budget rifle and round". My Grandfather hunted with a .270, when I got mine he would tell me every other year or so, "You know the wold record Polar bear was taken with a .270".  And at the time it was, and to him I think it over validated an already great proven cartridge.

Ahhh the things you rememeber...

Savage's are one of the few American manufacturers that still uses hammer forged actions. That rifle will likely shoot like a dream. The new trigger and stock that savage is running just add to an already great rep.

.270, like lincoln says, is a great cartridge.

I've owned 3 savages.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

I am a Remington guy, but I will give you a big  for the choice of the .270
Every deer I have killed since 1988 has been with a .270

I did end up buying this rifle.  Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, but have my bushnell elite series scope on it so it should be a good combo.  It's a good looking gun, not so sure on the extra soft/squishy butt plate but i'll give it a try.

I think you are going to love it.  My .270 has the Remington R3 Buttpad (reeeeeealll "squishy") and I can shoot it all day without feeling it.   :twocents:

squishy is the way to go. I can handle recoil...... but it doesnt mean i want it every time, all day at the range.

That sounds like a great setup. I'm a bit of a Savage nut (I have 9 actions, 13 stocks, and 15 barrels) so I may show a bit of a bias. :chuckle:  It should be a great shooter as well. Let us know how it works.
