No yotes yet again!
« on: June 26, 2011, 07:22:17 PM »
Went to la grande and between Vail and Rainer today. Made 15 stands. Got one yote to call back today, never seen one. Mother F***er it was warm out. Clearly not in shape lol. Calling is becoming frustrating  >:(

My avg has been around 5-6 stands for 1 coyote to show up. It takes a lot of work to get it done right, once you learn then there is nothing better then tricking them little rat bas@$$% and blasting them :chuckle:

I've called in more bears than yotes... :chuckle: (seems like they are easier for me to call anyway!)

If at first you dont succeed, try try again.

Keep at it. They're out there. I dont see em on every stand either.

Kind of learned it by going to pro staff presentaions and by reasearching the net and forums. Im the only guy i know personly that trys to predator call. Hopefully ill pull it together. however it was a good beautiful day in the woods. only ran into one group of people

sounds like coyote hunting.... :chuckle: make sure your not over calling, i know sometimes when it gets tough you wanna call alot, dont call to aggressive and only for about 30 seconds or so and then wait a good ten minutes, they normally only need to here it once and you want them to have to look for you and get curious, not know exactly where your at cuz they are sitting there listening to you call, good luck! they will come!

This time of year, prey distress sounds aren't too effective. Too much food around for them to fight for a meal. Try a pup in distress, usually will call in the females and a challenge howl, work of their territorial instincts. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Yea i tried mostly pup distress and black tail fawn distress cause most of the scat had deer hair in it and because from what I've read they are still denning. I also tried crows with jack rabbit distress and woodpecker distress. Got one to call back to coyote locater call. or it may have been him busting me because i did the locater call waited a min then got up to end the stand and it called. most of my stand were about 20 min. 90% of my calling is off my cs 24. i may be over calling. i typically let it run for a minute and 30 sec then break for two and back at it again. did see a bear cub, never seen the sow, but i didn't stick around for long.

Don't give up.  They move around.  last week my howls got what sounded like 15 coyotes, and they got closer until the changing wind must have spooked them.  Last week a friend told me he was butchering chickens and dumping the entrails in a spot I know about, so I took a ride up there and staked it out.  coyote poop and scattered entrails all around, but none came in.  Today I went back where I had such good response last week, and not one answer.  Ya can't call in what's not there!

Tried out my new RR Elkhorn howler, too.  Sounds great, Rick!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
