Some little guys
« on: June 10, 2008, 12:20:05 AM »
I drove over to the west side of the Oly's to put a trail cam out in a place I've been scouting... Driving down the road I see this hen on the side of the road:

Then she revealed what she was sitting on:

A little ways into my bushwhack, I walked out into a little clearing, and nearly stepped on this elk calf. It was five feet from me when I saw it. Hidden pretty well. I was a little freaked at first, not knowing where the mom was. But I managed to snap off quite a few photos before I decided I better get outta there before I get a hoof to the head  :) Sure enough, I was about 40 yards from the calf when the cow stood up in front of me. She ran off to the flank making a racket, probably trying to get me to follow her away. I've never seen a calf like that before. Ya really have to almost step on them to see them that young over here in the rainforest.

Tremendous pics, thanks for sharing.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Those are some great colors on those awesome pics. What kind of filter are you using? Your greens are so purty.

Thanks all!

HawkenBob - the grouse pix and close-up on the calf face were with my big lens & no filter. The other two calf shots were with my short lens which happened to have a polarizer on it (which does reduce reflections off foliage and boost colors a little)... But I wish it hadn't been on, because it blocks some light and makes for longer shutter speeds... and I got quite a few blurry ones  :bash:
