Rufus is on Fire
« on: June 28, 2011, 10:28:00 PM »
Went over to Banks Lake for the weekend to do some Walleye fishing. As an after thought I decided to hit Rufus Woods first on Friday morning. My girl friend is new to fishing and I wanted her and my son to catch some fish to get the weekend rolling. I targeted walleye knowing that we would hit plenty of triploids anyway. We hit some current seams where eddy currents are formed by land outcroppings, and even caught a few walleye when we could get our baits to the bottom. In fact Rufus was the only place we caught any keeper walleye. Banks and Roosevelt only put out small fish for us. But man oh man were the Triploids voracious. Sometimes they hit on the drop. We went back and hit it again on Sunday. We were using double whammies and crawlers at first, then went to whammies and plastic curly tail worms. We brought home 10- 3lb to 8 lb trips and released all the others plus 5 walleye to 22 inches. Pinch your barbs and use artificials and have the time of your life.

You have to open them in a program like picture manager or others then click options and re size them down.

This place hasn't been a secret for quite some time. Sorry I'm making it even worse. I've been going over there killin fish for about 8 years now. It used to be a world class walleye fishery, but the triploids are making things real difficult. I'd like to see more folks go over there and thin the buggers out. It's a great place to take kids and other newbies to catch a bunch of big hard fighting fish. Like I said though, use artificials and oinch your barbs if you want to catch and release. Then you can be selective and only keep the bigger ones. I smoked up 5 of our fish the other day. Delicious. Got the new smoker all stinky.
