That is still a horrible option. If you get drawn for two tags, you should be able to tell the game department if you want them both or if you want to hunt one of those and then save the points for the rest. You pay separately for each tag, so you shouldn't lose one.

Taking the points away is intentional and a part of what the WDFW thinks will increase odds.  They figure people will be smart about it and not risk losing their points by putting in for multiple categories with a lot of points.  I just hope more people get burned like this and the word gets out that you shouldn't do it. If everyone just applied for the one hunt they want to draw in a given year it will increase the odds for everyone.  :twocents:

This is the way it went for me so you don't think I am an idiot. Back in 2002 I turned in a big poacher case. I got ten points. Last year I got drawn with 20 points for the quality bull so this year I started over with one. I still had 20 cow points and one buddy had 6 so a group of four put in for cow tags knowing we should draw. The same buddy also had six quality points and he his two sons each having a point and I put in for a quality toutle for a total of 9 points. We would assume we wouldn't draw the toutle tag with average 3 points. Well we did. I chose a point option because I now have 21 bull points.

I got picked for a bull tag in the Olympic, and a cow tag in Winston. I put in for both of them because I barely had any points. Didn't think I'd get picked for anything.

If you're talking about me thinking you were an idiot, not at all, that's exactly how I would have played it.  We'll see when the time comes where my cutoff will be, but I'll probably put in for quality hunts along with other tags I'm trying to draw until I've got 7-8 quality points.

At the same time though nobody should gripe over losing points in both categories or want to be able to fill both tags, that would defeat what little purpose aside from revenue that this new category system brings to the table.

I don't agree. You do have the option to not apply for more then one just for that reason. I have many points and drew a cow tag. I put in for points for quality bull this year just so that kind of thing didn't happen to me. As for paying for each tag....you only pay for one elk tag. You do pay for a seperate application but that is why it's called a draw. You pay for a chance....that's it. Some win..some lose. You can not blame the dept. for drawing more then one tag and losing points. It is your own choice.
Just one more day
