Tips on Fishing the Icicle for Salmon?
« on: June 10, 2008, 07:30:41 PM »
Hey guys hows it going?  My brother and I want to get out this weekend and try our hand at some salmon fishing on the Icicle...  We don't have a boat and he needs to pick up a different fishing rig but any tips on what is working and what kind of fishing rig we should use? lol I know I'm a pretty big newbie when it comes to fishing small rivers for salmon... never done it and I've never fished the Icicle.  Though I have fished the columbia both from a friends boat with downriggers and from the shore working buzz bombs...  Any tips would be great and what areas are good to get out to... Thanks!

whats up mike!!!!
if you are looking to fish the icicle I would go down shore st. off of icicle river rd. or I would go fish up by the hatchery!!! there is a boat launch at the hatchery and if you fish down river to the bridge on east Leavenworth rd. is usually pretty good with salmon roe or what not.  also whole herring with a chrome nose piece worked really well last weekend!!! well hope to talk to you soon!

Thanks man we'll have to give it a try!  Is it best to use a set of waders and get out in the river and cast down river and reel back up to you or...?  He canceled his camping trip this weekend so it seems we'll be getting out and trying our hand!  Thanks again!

the entiat river is open for salmon too...

try drifting a gob of eggs the size of a quarter ticking the bottom with just enough lead to have it touch and keep drifting.
you can also cast spinners and spoons.
casting downstream and reeling back up is probably not what i would do...kings tend to hug the bottom at the head of pools or holding water.

nah, just cast up river from shore and try to get your line to drift down into the holes.  I'm giving the Entiat a try this weekend seeing how they just opened it and working for chelan county gives me a chance to swing by the hatchery all the time, there are quite a few fish in there and they showed me a couple of holes today that are holding fish as we speak!!!! know who this is yet???

Oh hell man I just figured it out!  How you doing man? long time no talk!
Ya my old boss owns some riverfront property and I figured we could give his place a try up the Entiat too... I heard the Icicle is pretty crowded lately!  How big are the fish that have been running?

Looks like we'll ahve to make a trip to Hooked on and get some new gear!  Should be fun...

Well we gave it hell this weekend lol... fished the Entiat Saturday evening and Sunday morning without a nible... the water is up really high and we didn't see a single fish (not that they weren't there, but we were pretty skeptical about the amount of fish moving upstream...).

Looks like it may be the icicle this next weekend...
